Walker looking frustrated, as he blazes into the sidenetting after wandering inside past a few of their players. Understandable, but petulant.
3-2. Townsend. One of their players makes a slip that was equally as silly as Ceballos' and Toronto are punished.
Holtby and Rose looking good going forward, but Ceballos, Falque and Kane have not had much influence.
Townsend scores. Nearly fell out my chair! That's him nailed on to have a great season with long range shots flying in from all angles.
I'd say Ceballos was influential, it was just that his decisions and shots were poor, similar to Townsend up until he scored. Falque was okay but Rose was really the only one who impressed in that second half. Totally unbalanced team though, Carroll is never going to shield your defence, especially with no one to partner him. We reverted back to entertainment over quality again but on the plus side it's pushing the players. We probably could have won very comfortably had we stuck with a more balanced side like we'd seen in the first half but what's the point in proving what you already know so early in preseason. I think it was a case of Pochettino throwing in the players like Falque, Holtby and Carroll who did well in the first game and seeing whether any of them will do so again under more difficult circumstances and they didn't. At the end of the day we played 20 outfield players tonight, with Sandro, Adebayor, Vertonghen, Chadli, Dembele, Chiriches and Adebayor all out so of course there's going to be errors and problems. Pleased enough with the first half but the excuses only run so far as the defence and control of the game is concerned, in attack we still had the opportunities to make up for it and we didn't, losing the half 2-1.
I missed the game, really wanted to stay up but having to be up 5:30 today just wasn't going to happen lol. Saw the highlights before I left for work and I've read the comments. Sounds like Lamela was really good while Eriksen and Lennon also looked fresh and willing to do the work. Though sloppy defending as per usual allowed the opposition to claw back. How was Davies in his first 45 minutes? Don't suppose you have another link to the full 90 minute highlights Inda by any chance?
Tonight on BT sport at 7:30 Oh and I thought Davies did well. He didn't have too much defending to do as we dominated but going forward he was good, lifting his head before passing and therefore not just 'crossing into the box'. Also interesting to see we took a lot of short corners. New tactic maybe?
Cheers B&W, though sods law I don't have BT Good to see Davies done ok, excited about the potential of this kid. Read comments on twitter of Swansea fans, they believe he's as good as Shaw with similar potential, thought really highly of him so hopefully we can help him fulfil that potential. Interesting on the corners, although I don't usually like short ones, we rarely seem to cause much damage from them despite the likes of Dawson, Kaboul, Ade amongst others being aerially strong.
Playing 20 outfield players is exactly what Poch should be doing. Last season we looked like we didn't understand the system. Well, some did and then people coming in looked rubbish. Get everyone singing from the same hymn sheet early
There's a ton of links on this page: http://www.reddit.com/r/footballdow...dly_toronto_fc_v_tottenham_hotspur_23jul2014/ I've not checked any of them.
Awesome, thanks mate, will check it out when I get home. Really wanna watch the match, seems like another cracker.
I wouldn't be too harsh on the defenders for the goals, it was mostly Ceballos' fault for giving the ball away for the first one, along with not having a proper DM to slow things down and allow the defence to snap back into shape. With the second, Fryers was very much at fault, allowing a fast player to get a few yards on him and to be fair he also took the goal very well. They had a lot to deal with the second half and generally they did the job well, you could just as well criticise the attacking players for not making better use of their numbers more often in the second half.
I enjoyed the game, in between the 20-winks. I can't pick the game apart like you lot but there's a lot of positives to take. Everyone looks fit, so that's one less thing to worry about.
Ahh right, thanks for letting me know. The short highlights I watched showed Ceballos' slip but looked as though no defender closed the opposition down thereafter. The second looked "blockable" for Fryers. Will hopefully have a good watch when I'm home and see how everyone got on
The Zzzs got me as predicted (so no chance of watching the Chicago game live) . From what I have read, it seems the summary is : - The 1st half was ok - The 2nd half MF was poor once Pochettino withdrew any semblance of a DM - Townsend is still deluding himself into believing he is the new Bale Not too concerned with the Dawson/Fryers pairing, as that is solely down to all senior squad CBs on injury/WC leave.
I see Man City, Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and us had a game last night, http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28459129 but only team warrants it's own report http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28423344 Glad the Salford based BBC doesn't have favourites.
