Oh, was it their fans clapping Holtby? Still deserved a clap from me. He had a good game if you ignore the fouls.
Probably both sets, to some extent. Holtby was good at the attacking stuff, but not so much on the defensive side. I'd rather see him playing in one of the front three roles behind the striker, preferably in the middle. Back-up and competition for Eriksen, for me.
How did we fail to put that away?! Ceballos didn't have the angle, so why not put Kane in on the open goal?
Fek me, it looks like we have a decent team, a decent squad and a manager who knows what he is doing, Levy is going to have to work really hard to fek it up this year.
2-1 FT. Better show from the Germans in the second half and that was a decent run-out, overall. Bits to work on, obviously, but you can see what Pochettino's trying to do. Bentaleb was impressive for about an hour, then ran out of steam. Probably a little off the pace due to the World Cup and coming back a bit late. Rose had a good 45 minutes, Dier looked very, very comfortable and Holtby showed what he can do. I wonder how we'll start against the Spam?
What is Holtby's best position? I'm failing to see what other people seem to see. Imo he's not all that good at all.
Holtby, Kaboul, Eriksen and Lloris look to be certs for the Spammers game - after that not so sure... Lamela seems to have Poch's support so could be given a slot Ade worked hard, looked motivated and got a goal, so hard not to start with him Soldado got on the scoresheet, but didnt look particularly sharp Dier did look good for the most part Kane, Lennon and Townsend did ok Didnt see enough of Sandro today, but he would get my vote if anything more than 60-70% fit Davies looks steady, although neither he nor Rose stood out. The main concern should be the continued absence of Walker - so the sooner we get Yedlin in the better....
I'd like to see lennon amd townsend start i think after today. Agree about holtby tbh. Just seems to run around a lot.
Naughton was pretty good for most of the game i thought. He generally is at right back. It's left back that he's cack at.
The way they were banging on about it for the rest of the game, you'd think there was a FIFA directive saying red cards for thought crimes. Yes, the tackle was stupid - but it didn't come near connecting, so therefore wasn't a foul. How is that so hard for some commentators?
Holtby has great energy, fast feet and covers the ground, getting into advanced positions, but also covering well. Not the finished article by any means, but still young - and I would like to see him given some game time. Also think he is the style of player that will fit the coach's style. Seems to give 100% and his enthusiasm is infective.
He wasnt cack maybe, but still got caught out at the back post when getting drawn into the centre. Bottom line is that he isn't good enough to be a first choice or regular right back

I've been saying for a while Holtby runs a lot but not to any effect. Soldado shook his head after the goal because I don't think he knew too much about it. Newcastle beat them by a wider margin away than we beat them at home and they were without Drax and two other top players so all in all a disappointing result. The match at West Ham will I think be a close affair which we will do well to win.
Spur of he moment "The main concern should be the continued absence of Walker - so the sooner we get Yedlin in the better...! Yedlin will be going back to Settle for the rest of the mls season. In January he will either be drafted into the squad or be loaned out
