Sorry, but that's predominantly because they were all a easy / quick / relatively cheap option (delete as appropriate) apart from Bennett, who was signed as a prospect. It's a critical position - if we can justify throwing £8.5m at a striker unproven at this level, then we should be spending at least that on a top defender, one who instills confidence throughout he back line. Martin is a great team captain, but I still don't accept he's a great central defender.
If Celtic lose on Wednesday we should text Ronnie Delia with a £10 m bid for Van Dike and see what happens. If not get someone from Serie A they have some cracking defenders out there. #IMHO
Our back four now is better than it was 2011-2014. However, our strikeforce still falls short in comparison, without the towering presence of Grant Holt. On that basis I think a striker is the priority.
Mbokani doesn't excite me, he is not much better than what we have in my opinion ,he has never played Prem football , at nearly 30 he has no resale value the only thing going for him is the price tag which is fairly cheap .
All fair enough, but the only thing I think might be difficult to say is whether he is much better than what we have. I think he might be. Also there comes a time when you can't just focus on resale value - some players, yes, but others you want in their prime at the top of their game. I don't think we spent £300k on Holt (which was a lot for League One) thinking he would have great sell-on potential (that he did is besides the point...)
The picture of him with his Gucci luggage at the airport that he posted on Instagram sent out all the wrong signals for me, anyhoo . Lafferty & Hooper came with a way better scoring record than the Ukranian club player and could both be good next season , some on here are already writing off Grabban again like someone mentioning swapping him for the Brentford player Gray . I just don't have a good feeling about Mbokani he seems like he has a big chip on his shoulder and wants to "pose in the Premier league" I hope that was just lost in translation .
