Yate Town is where the development squad play their matches and I think we owe Bath a friendly for the past help they gave us. City looking at a Bath player as a possible signing according to the WDP
Those early games are all to build up fitness really and confidence. For example, if Nichols bags a lot of goals, it might help him to remember where the goal is. If he fails against these teams then we may as well write off the season before it even starts!
Rovers off to Ireland for pre season training, they are playing St. Mochta on the 10th July, If anybody is in Dublin on that date admission is 5Euros kids free. 7 . 45 KO
Went to the game and was very impressed with some of the performances. Bennett turned in the performance of the type that made him a good signing, Reilly and Nicholls played really well and Davies was outstanding when he came on. Our Dutch Keeper made a couple of good saves including the penalty and Mark Little also played well. Secombe Clarke Rodman put in the sort of performances that we have come to expect of them. Luca Hoole, Tomlinson, Russe, Moore, Morgan and the other youngsters played with the type of performances that hinted at a bright future for the club.
I just hope that GC doesnt think we don't need strikers now as we scored 10 against Yate. Also its good Bennett played well but again, it was only Yate. Can he do it against regularly against L1 clubs? I guess time will tell. Its a worry that Holmes-Dennis and Clarke-Harris are out injured. It will effect their fitness to the start of the season. I've read THD will be having an operation and will be out for 2 months. Not sure if accurate of course. And JCH being injured is a worry, especially as we don't have anyone decent to replace him yet. And finally as Deon Moore played, does this mean he has signed a new contract?
Apparently not according to Bristol Live he is still considering the offer of a new contract but he has gone o Dublin, the way he played on Saturday he could save the club a lot of money. I have seen him in the development teams works hard very good in the air and isn't afraid to shoot
Won tonight 7-0. Also hit the woodwork twice and scored a goal that was disallowed for offside. Could have been another 10-0 game. Now don't faint anyone and maybe you should sit down here in case you do faint but Nichols scored a hattrick!! All Nichols goals came in the first half which ended 3-0. 2nd half with a complete different 11 players scored a further 4 goals. Scored by Deon Moore, new striker Tyler Smith, new defender Josh Hare and youngster Lucas Tomlinson. Leahy got a few assists which will anger Walsall fans 1st half team: Anssi Jaakkola, Luca Hoole, Tom Davies, Tony Craig, Cameron Hargreaves, Luke Russe, Luke Leahy, Kyle Bennett, Alex Rodman, Tom Nichols, Gavin Reilly. 2nd half team: Jordi van Stappershoef, Mark Little, Alfie Kilgour, Rollin Menayese, Ollie Clarke, Liam Sercombe, Lucas Tomlinson, Tyler Smith, Deon Moore, Michael Kelly, Josh Hare.
Found it rather interesting that Kyle Bennett was the only player to have his name on the back of his shirt at yesterdays match against Birmingham, was wondering if there were scouts there and they didn't know who Bennett was and he was in the shop window
I don't normally do pre-season games very often but given we have an almost new squad again thought I'd give the Bristol Rovers match next Saturday a go for once. Anybody coming down for a look see?
No not for me. Classed as a derby game but London is actually closer to Bristol! You got Dom Telford and Byron Moore (ex-gas players) so it will be interesting to see how they get on. But 3 of our players, pretty much 3 of our better players are out injured. Striker Clarke-Harris (who scored that great goal at Home Park). Our new captain and pretty much our best CM in Ollie Clarke and our main threat out wide on the left in Holmes-Dennis. Until we have those 3 back and fit playing, we won't be anywhere near our best.
