I watch a lot of programmes about antiques...bit worrying that things I remember are now featuring on them ...and they are always full of facts and pieces of interest. Google gives you the chance to get more detail immediately....but we used to use places called libraries before.
And encyclopaedias...does anyone every buy them anymore? I remember getting the Children's Britannica every year at Christmas
Loved reading encyclopaedias. I know they can't be updated as quickly, but on the other hand bad ideas spread very quickly now before they are confirmed by hard evidence. Fine when you are researching a holiday, perhaps not so good when you are considering whether to inoculate your children.
I make a point of buying Encylopaedias & the odd Atlas for my kids. There's little better than spreading out on the floor and researching something for a school project. They can't use the ipads if I hide them......which is part of the routine.
For those who like a laugh, the match thread for yesterday on SW is worth a visit. This is my favourite bit so far
I love an Atlas - or any kind of map, really. Usee to spend hours as a kid, staring at maps and dreaming about far away places. That's never gone away, and I passed it on to my son.
Yep, that's the one thing the electrical world cannot supersede. And kids seem to realise that........which is very pleasant in a day of age where 'google it' seems to be the constant catch phrase.
They’re talking about the modern olympics of course. Much Wenlock has an Olympic trail and is our fave place to stay for Our visits to Wolves which return this season. Still remember our 6 nil victory when we only had 5 shots. Classic
Google Maps is ace I used it before the semi final this year, to plan where I was going to park. Zoomed right in to the actual street near Finchley Road station, and read the parking restrictions on the sign I also used it to plan my route from 176th St Metro Station, to my hotel in The Bronx, before I visited New York.
I used it for Milan It's actually really handy for away games in general though, especially London where I can plan where to park and then get train from etc. I've used it to look at parking signs too
I don't think you can read anything from this result. Pre-season matches are not that much of a guide but I am a little bit disappointed that we have not been in the market yet for a centre forward. There are still a few weeks left so hopefully this can be rectified. It seemed quite clear to me that the tried and failed line up last year needed refreshing and that Carrillo was too slow to perform at this level. In retrospect his signing is almost on a par with Delgado and the gap between perception and reality was far greater than should have been the case. I wonder how much scouting we did before buying and how much we relied on MP's opinion. Hopefully some fresh faces will be brought in in the next 2 weeks. It is a shame that both Carrillo and Boufal have only gone out on loan as I was hoping we could sell both and getting someone more of the calibre of Pelle. Elsewhere, I am glad to see the new signings to freshen the squad up. Having Davis back available will be a huge plus and I am optimistic that this season will be more enjoyable to watch than the last two. Got to say that the relegation of WBA and Stoke means that the two most boring fixtures of the season are no longer a feature. Quite happy with that outcome although the thing I am looking forward to most is seeing Liverpool hopefully falling flat on their face in the next campaign.
