I've just had a flick through his twitter, and done a quick look for City, Leeds and United - and there is nothing - plenty of mentions of Hull though. If he's a Leeds fan, he doesn't speak of it. I don't think he's a City fan either, just a nice guy who's devoted to his boxing.

Knows ex-City player Curtis Woodhouse though.

Still see the occasional Leeds car sticker about- usually in a disabled bay outside the supermarket.

In fact is the Leeds crest the new disabled sticker?

    Would explain a lot.....

Not only that debate but when Tiger Rag was first played at a Hull City match and the last match it was played. According to my husband the same version was played when he went from 1946 until 1966 when he left the UK. He returned on a 6 week business trip in early 1971(based in Manchester at ICI) and attended the Hull City v Stoke City cuptie in early March when the same version was played. His next home game was Bradford in February 1985 when there was no Tiger Rag.

According to his father Tiger Rag preceded Boothferry Park as a Tigers entry tune but he has not seen any verification of this.

It's obviously a very debatable subject and in reflection I should have said ONE of the greatest. It will all come down to opinion I guess but I see winning gold at the Olympics on par if not greater than anything Nick achieved, not to take anything away from Nick who had a fantastic career.

Campbell's achievements is surely greater than being picked for England.

Winning the Gold Medal at the Olympics means he's the best in the Bantamweight division. Whereas Nick, although great for a sustained period of time, kept on being dropped by England. On club showing he won quite a bit, but then had to drop to league 1 to keep his career from stalling.

By no means am i ungreatful for what Nick did at City. He was brilliant for us, i just think Campbell's achievement is one of the biggest sporting moments in to happen to a lad from Hull.

I don't really care who he supports. He might not even like football.

    I doubt there'll be one.

It's hard to directly compare the two achievements, they're both impressive.

How many boxing matches did he win to get the gold? 3?

Surely only the best amateur too? Won't the pro's generally be considered to be better?

Seriously I'm not knocking his achievement, it was awesome, can't get much better than winning an Olympic Gold medal in your home nations games. I do however wonder if greatness can be an instant thing, or if it needs to be earned over a period of time.

If he's put on his arse in his next fight and never makes it to being a Pro, is he still going to be considered a great, or rather just a good boxer who won a gold?

I also wonder if it was a synchronized swimming team or other similar sport that we'd provided winners for, would we have the same reaction? Which suggests to me its not the act of winning the gold that makes him great, its that he beat an Irish lad at fighting.

Genuinely surprised the Barmby fanboys aren't outraged too.

    Give your head a bang.

You cannot say that any of our athletes only won gold because it was on home turf.

If Campbell does get put on his arse it doesn't make him a **** boxer. If any boxer gets caught with a good shot they can get put down. Ali (considered to be the greatest) got dropped on several occasions.

There was only 1 boxer from each country in each weight division. Campbell earned the right to fight in the olympics by proving that he is the best in the country in his weight division. I think he also did well in the world championships, but I've not checked that.

I can see where you're coming from.

It was four fights he won on the way to winning the gold medal. He got a bye in the first round.

Also, he's been doing well at the other boxing tournaments. Think he's been through to the finals and has won it recently. Although, i need clarification. So it's not like he's just suddenly come good. He;s worked for this all his life. Not bad winning the gold in hois first Olympics.

It doesn't matter whether he's amature or professional- it's some achievement. He's the best Amature Bantamweight fighter then.

If it's not as big as, if not greater than Barmby's England career then why are so many people saying it's great? Or why weren't people turning to sport in the aftermath Barmby putting on an England shirt?

It's fantastic kids are inspired to be like Luke and it was great to see people turn up at the KC to see Nick Barmby back in 2004.

It might have something to do with Campbell being openly proud to be from Hull, whereas Barmby took ages to say so. Not knocking him by any means, as he was brilliant for us.

It might be part of the Hull pschy that we need to rate the successes of people we see as "one of our own"", because we're not used to success.

Erm Patty, sure the crowd CAN lift a competitor, in the same way they can in Football games, and obviously booing and silence can have the opposite effect. To suggest the Olympians weren't there on ability, dedication and talent is...how can I put this...****ing stupid.

Some may have been spurred on to a level higher medal maybe, but seriously, if the crowd could make that much of a difference, we'd be in the Champions Leag....oh wait.

Gol, yeah I agree, Campbell IS being a great ambassador for Hull, whereas Nick was a great ambassador for....Nick.

I agree also it was an awesome achievement, but I wonder how many people will be talking about him in say a years time compared to people talking about Nick being a legend.

It's most likely a football vs other sports thing I guess, reality is, as much as a lot of us loved these Olympics and, personally speaking, watched many different sports I'd never watch normally, am I likely to be watching them in a months time? No, of course not.

I guess comparing these Olympians with modern footballers, or even ancient ones, is like comparing bricks to cheese. Pointless.

There's a good article on the BBC today about how people feel about footballers. Bottom line is, we mostly despise them, but we also love them at the same time.

Actually comparing bricks to cheese isn't pointless at all, if the moons made of cheese, what's to stop you building a house out of it? A very suitable comparison IMO.

Depends what he does next, if he goes pro then he'll certainly eclipse what Nick did, as it stands at the moment he is the best in the world at what he does, something which could never be said for Nick.

Boxing is hardly handball is it? It's a huge sport with a worldwide audience of millions, just like football.
