Well despite what some of you think of him... Philip Buckingham ‏@PJBuckingham Sounds like Luke Campbell will be a guest of honour at the KC on Saturday. I think that's brilliant news and I will give him a massive round of applause
If he is a Leeds fan and his family are from Leeds and he's been raised to support them what's wrong with that? Should he suddenly choose to change allegiances? I was born and bred and still live in Leicester, but all my family other than one cousin and another cousins baby were born and bred in east Yorkshire, so I was raised a hull fan taken to games since I just turned 3, should I now go and support Leicester instead?
That isn't the point. Plenty of people don't support City because they aren't football fans or whatever, but if he does like football and chooses to support TWS, despite going around telling everyone Hull is the best thing ever and being proud of it would be very disappointing. As I've said, it isn't that he doesn't support City, it's that he's from Hull, and goes on about being proud of coming from here but (allegedly) isn't actually proud enough to support his home town team when it comes to football. No, because the point is you don't come on here bragging about how much you love Leicester and you're so proud of being from there. Somebody really needs to find out whether Campbell is a Leeds fan, his presence at the KC would be brilliant news and I'd love to show my appreciation for him unless this turns out to be true.
Also, as OLM said being an East Yorkshire TWS fan is upsetting enough, but I find it even more irritating when people are fans of football and rugby league and support a Hull rugby team but choose Leeds at football. Far too many people do that.
Now this may seem odd, but I am not really any prouder of Luke than any other medalist. My family at home keep going on about him, but I just don't get it. I am proud to say that I am from Hull, but I would not link that pride with a medal. It's all a bit insular really. Sure celebrate his gold medal, but it isn't going to put Hull back on the map.
I can't see it myself. He's gone on about Hull too much. When the cameras caught him during the closing ceremony, he mentioned Hull immediately. I'd expect a Hull White to mention Yorkshire more than just the city. The way he's acted makes me think either he doesn't care about football, or he's one of us.
Haven't most of the Hull Whites disappeared under their rocks since City's rise through the leagues and they've gone back into obscurity? The ones you see all wear their older tops and walk about like extras from Shaun of the Dead.
I thought that would be Nick Barmby not someone most of us only heard about 2 weeks ago? Yes, that is probably a contentious comment, and I do genuinely respect him for his dedication to his sport and his success in the Olympics, but is he a greater sporting figure than Nick? Winning one gold medal in one Olympics marks him out as special but not yet a greatest anything.
All the Leeds fans I see in Hull tend to be old, bald and fat, every single one of them... makes me chuckle. Apart from when I once saw a teenager in a Leeds shirt near East Park, but he was all by himself, so explained why he's a Leeds fan. My car is broken at the minute, so been having to get by with blagging lifts and using buses when they're available - some of you who use Twitter may have seen my tweets the other day to EYMS. The bus turned up 15 mins late, so Tweeted at them to let them know, then having got on the bus, I noticed the driver had a 'LUFC' tattoo on his arm (old, balding bloke - looked a lot like Gary Glitter does now - also explains why he's a Leeds fan). After noticing the 'LUFC' tattoo, I tweeted at EYMS to inform them that it explained why he's a slacker. As well as telling them their drivers should show more local pride, considering they're sometimes the first sight a visitor to the city will see. I was on another bus another day (I really can't wait to get my car back!) and saw a car parked outside Latus chippy on Holderness Rd with a Hull KR sticker and a Leeds Utd sticker in the back window.... the bus was about an inch from scraping it.... shame the driver was an inch off target. Quite a lot of people locally seem to be at least 'proud' of City now, and have a '2nd team' - Luke could end up being one of those? I know Kaylee Carver (the lass who did the photoshoot in the City shirt in the shower at the KC and is from Hull) is proud of Hull City, but is a massive Man Utd fan (and Hull KR fan). It's probably due to City only recently being successful - you look at a team like Newcastle and if you've ever been there, it's VERY rare you see anyone supporting anyone other than Newcastle, but that's due to a mixture of local pride and success during the early 'Prem' years.
Without trying to offend every Rugby fan on here, from what I've seen and heard from my local FC supporters, supporting TWS seems to be about the right level of intelligence for them.
Although Hull Whites do my head in, especially when they re-appear out of the blue, but i agree with Airlie on this one. It houldn't really matter who he supports. He's very supportive of Hull and the area, and says it in all his interviews. Hull Whites/ reds/ bin dippers never give the area a bit of praise.
But his family weren't from Leeds so your question is pointless. And you were raised as a City fan so,no,you shouldn't support Leicester. My family was from Leeds originally but I was born in East Yorkshire and opted to support my local side despite being taken to a Leeds game before a City one, and City being in Division 3 at the time and Leeds in Division 1.However I would have nothing against someone in similar circumstances who supported Leeds. What I can't stand is people born in Hull and East Yorkshire to local families who choose to support a football club from elsewhere. Especially those who say how proud they are to support one of the local teams. Don't you feel like doing damage to cars with a Rovers or FC sticker in the back window alongside a Leeds United, Man Utd, Liverpool or some other team's sticker which the pathetic inadequates have chosen to support instead of their local club?
I'd probably agree to be fair. He's reached the top of the sport as an amateur, there must surely be professional sportsmen/women from Hull who've done it as a pro (which Luke might go on to do) that would be more accurately claimed as the greatest so far.
