Well Figueroa has made over 30 appearances for the club. Given that he's under 6 foot, he's not particularly tall for a centre-half, so if you were picking a defender to leave back it'd make sense. Jack Hobbs, for example, played as many games for us as Bruce, at a lower level and only managed one goal, despite the fact he's 6 foot 3 and went up for almost every set piece.
You can switch allegiances if you've only played in friendlies, it is only once you've played in a competitive full international that you cannot switch.
Lighten up, Francis, these are opinions. They can only be proven in alternate universes. However, any fair observer witnessed City's defense lose cohesion after Bruce left the match.
I think certain people play too much FIFA and football manager and base what they know of football on that
the main influence he had on the game was giving away a stupid free kick which they scored from - if it wasn't for his stupidity we would have still been leading 2 0 - although that bit gets conveniently forgotten by the 'he had suarez in his pocket' numpties
Why is it people who say that are 'numpties'? Nobody is saying Alex is perfect or a world beater all of a sudden, if he was he wouldnt be playing for us, and he will still make mistakes as well as have good games, which is exactly as you would expect for a player at a club in our position. The point is he is in the team on merit and anyone who still claims 'he is the worst defender in the Premier League' is just plain wrong.
Because people use that reference to make out that Alex is Premier League quality, when it should be plain to everybody watching that he clearly isn't. I agree he should be in the team at the moment because he's playing well, but if we brought in somebody better, I'd expect him to drop out. It's not because he's ****e, because he isn't, he just isn't a Premier League standard player and if somebody like Chester is fit again, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to suggest who's going to drop out. Nobody on this thread has claimed he's the worst in the Premier League, either. We've had so many first team injuries this season and look at how much it has affected our league position. You play the likes of Bruce, Meyler and Quinn every week and you end up in the relegation zone; that's what's happened and it's because those players aren't good enough to be relied upon over a long period of time. It's not to say they can't do a job in the mean time, but there's no need for them to be here long term if we can recruit newer players in the Summer. All this talk of Alex getting a new contract is ridiculous, he should be let go in Summer and allowed to go somewhere he can play first team football. Meanwhile we should be looking at either promoting Maguire or bringing in another squd player.
Don't agree with that. Whilst saying we would have won if Bruce had stayed on the pitch is conjecture (just like those who say we would have stayed up if Brownie hadn't been sacked), he was having a great game and we were much more frail defensively after he left the field (again, that could be coincidence and instead relate to Arsenal going up a gear). I believe that there was a noticeable drop in our performance after his substitution, and believe we had a better chance to win the cup if he'd stayed on the field.
