i'm not saying Harewood is the best but he does stand out on the free transfer list and yes he'll probably end up in the Championship but if Notts County can offer him a contract we ought to get in there as well and at least make an offer, what's the worst that can happen? he says no and we move on to the next target
The trouble is⦠how much would his wages dent our overall budgetâ¦? Baring in mind he was earning Premiership/Championship wages at Blackpool last season. I think weâd agree that we need at least: Two CBâs One LB Two CMâs One CF At the very least thatâs six players we require. Now, I donât know what the budget is for the coming campaign but thatâs a significant investment in terms of wages alone, without factoring in any potential fees we need to cough up for. We need to strengthen so many areas of our squad that I feel we could struggle to make a significant investment in any one player⦠Maybe Iâll be proved wrong and our new board will push the boat out and surprise us all with one or two stand out acquisitions⦠Who knowsâ¦
Notts County is a publicity stunt IMO to probably get some season ticket sales up. Harewood will still command in excess of 6k I'd imagine, and NC won't have those finances. Mooney scored some terrific goals for us, not just tap ins. That said, not sure I would want him back as I think it didn't work out for him here and the crowd will be on his big from the start.
"Watching Dave Mooney was like watching an empty crisp packet floating around the pitch." Martinho, I have just startled my dozing office by laughing out loud - thank you for making my afternoon. A bit harsh, though. WeWant - I remember one goal where he controlled the ball, did a half-step to the left and crashed it into the roof of the net, with almost no backlift - can't remember the game. But generally there weren't enough goals and more than enough anonymous no-shows. He seemed to be doing well at Colchester, but I think the writing was on the wall when they made that statement about cutting back on the playing budget a few weeks ago. Can't see the point of having him back.
He scored one decent goal against Gillingham at home and that was it, would be a terrible signing. He was nicknamed Pooney for a reason
Tewks I do remember that goal actually and was just thinking of it before I read your post but that as far as I remember (other than a few headers) was the only exception to the rule. Good luck to him finding a new club, I don't hold anything against him personally (despite him referring to the 'boo-boys' at Charlton as idiots). I believe he will end up at a mid-table League One squad if he doesn't sign for Colchester.
Mooney and Parkinson in the same sentance. That really stretches my will to live, and has right royally ruined my weekend, which was going so well after winning 1 large on The Fed. Now I just feel sick and reckon the cat is in for a right old rogering
Franco I think that depends how much investment the new owners want to put into the team. In all likelyhood I think Harewood will sign for a Championship team but he'd score goals for fun at this level. Following the recruitment policy of the last 2 seasons has seen us fail to get promoted twice, we even won the first 6 games of the season and still didn't make it up. Following that strategy again of signing cheap players won't get us up it's been proved just look at the last 2 seasons, we need someone who can make a difference at this level. Mooney doesn't do that he wouldn't get us promoted
I am going to start a crew on here, The Cashing in on the FedExpress to make the weekend worthwhile crew
I hear what you're saying Martin, but spending money on players in no way guarantees success or that said players will be a success, particulary in this league. If a player is a good enough why should it matter if they cost nothing? In a nut shell, It's all about finding the right players who want to play for our club. If that means we need to spend money to achieve that I'm all for it (assuming we've got any money that is), or if we can do it by bringing free agents I'll be equally happy. After all the ends will hopefully justify the means (hopefully)!
Rather than start a new thread...... SLP this morning reporting we are chasing Romain Vincelot from Daggers again. Adapted to League One with ease so would be very happy with the signing. The only possible problem being that quite a few clubs are linked, some being in the Championship!
Also ex-Cardiff man Gavin Rae has stated that we're chasing his signature. Aberdeen also interested though.
Cheers Super. Is it just me who feels this could definately be the end of Racon and Semedo? So far we've signed midfielders Hollands and Pritchard, as well as still having McCormack, and have been linked with Rae and Vincelot. Unless the plan is to offload McCormack and play Vincelot at RB and Rae at Left-mid?
Think your right re Semedo and Racon. I think there are better options out there, and I assume cheaper, too! Semedo is a cult hero- and not much more being honest. I would much rather Vincelot...
