ok, probably a dumb question, but are we expecting a £50m INCREASE in TV money next season? I had read the club who finishes bottom will get what this year's winners will get. I didn't realise it was that much of an increase, christ. so last season we got £45m wasn't it, for finishing 12th. So we can expect something like £90-100M next season.
Well it was a good debate, but as I am now not a true NCFC supporter My opinion is worthless. Even the Mods are having a go
yarco, the point dave is making is that you're 'opinion' on this is NOT an opinion. it is just nonsense! total nonsense. why do you think you are getting so much ridicule for the post? there is no intention to dismiss your opinion on anything but what you've posted on this thread is pure drivel and is being given the treatment i'd expect if i'd posted the same. i think cromer has summed it up well with his horse analogy...
Thankfully it is getting late in my corner of the world so i can make the excuse of going to bed and calling it a day
Yarco, I think you are getting the treatment from the Neo "We are Premier League" Norwich supporters. Most understand your point but have been smitten with the Premier League at all costs bug. I for one cannot accept that football is all about money. I'll probably get several buckets of **** thrown at me for that attitude. Premier League Football has kidnapped the game I love and I can see my club getting sucked into the arrogance of it all. Not merely from the nepotism of watching because my grandson was playing but the football played by a bunch of under 13's on Saturday morning was far more original and entertaining and ultimately more satisfying than any Prem game. That was until they all trooped out of the changing rooms after the game and apart from my Grandson, they all had Chelsea, Manure, City, Barcelona bags etc. Not one for Plymouth Argyle! Those other clubs did not need the revenue from those kids but Argyle do and to talk of the gap between the Prem and the rest of English football growing and us needing to be a part of that makes me shake my head!
No, it wasn't a good debate, a good debate requires responding to our points in order to defend your own opinions. Myself, and many others have addressed your argument with a series of legitimate points, and you haven't responded to any of them, you've just taken offence to your opinion being questioned. As said, your perfectly entitled to your opinion, but if you can't support it then everyone else is more than entitled to query you on it - which we have. I'm happy for feedback on this from everyone, but I don't believe the mods, meaning myself and Dave at the moment, "are having a go". As far as I can see, we've both been fairly neutral, with Dave questioning why you refuse to either acknowledge or counter the points put forward by everyone else. "Mods" simply means we can delete double posts, correct spelling mistakes in titles, and make requests to those higher up the chain if we feel someone repeatedly oversteps the mark. Equally, we're entitled to our own opinions, that's what we're on the forum for anyway, so naturally we may disagree with people. Our decision to do so is nothing to do with "mod" status. I frequently disagree with Carrabuh (for example), but respect his right to an opinion, and we have reasonable debates on a variety of issues, where we actually respond to each others points. That isn't happening in this case. Myself, Dave or Maestro are hardly going to go running to the "super-mods" to get Carrabuh (again, for example) banned because I disagree with his opinion, being a mod has nothing to do with it. Apologies to Carrabuh for repeatedly using you as an example! Redruth, if I've understood you correctly your saying that you'd rather see us play quality football rather than dour football to stay in the PL. I can understand that, whilst my position is that I'd rather we use our current position for transition. We're at a cross-roads where money is becoming very important in football. In an ideal situation I'd like to see Norwich play attractive, free-flowing attacking football at the highest level. For that to happen, we need money (sadly), so at the moment PL-status is important. This is the first time in my memory I've seen Norwich survive in the PL for a second seasion, so I'd like us to make the most of it. If in 3,4 seasons times we're playing negative, defensive, dour football, them my mindset might well change, but for now I see that surviving by any means possible is the best way for me to see what I want.
Thanks Redruth ,I was beginning to doubt what I actually wrote. There is no more patriotic fan than me,but I am a realist too
Simple question.......Will this £50 M (if we stay up) strengthen our position in PREM league. Yes or No ??? Start a POLL and see what the silent majority think
Exactly the answer I'd expect everyone to give. Whether you think survival at all costs is the way you want to see our club run or not, I don't think you can disagree with it. Teams in the PL for 2013-14 will have £50m more than the 3 promoted for 2014-15, so that provides a boost to our survival chances.
Yes, it will, because we, as a club, will be far better equipped as a Premier league club. We can consider immediately raising ground capacity which will lead towards increased sustainability as seat sales = extra cashflow and merchandising benefits, plus enhanced catering revenue, programme advertising revenue, etc
This is an interesting explanation: http://www.sportingintelligence.com...ng-where-the-money-goes-and-what-next-190601/
sorry, but there is absolutely no argument to be had here. for anyone to suggest that the extra tv revenue gives us no advantage is ****ing bonkers. that's £50m (estimated) that the club WON'T HAVE if we go down. do you know what the club can do with £50m quid??? if, as i'm sure i'm correct, everyone here wants the club to move forward, we need that extra £50m. otherwise, the club could go backwards again. its not the end of the world if we go down because the club has been run extremely well the last four years and the balance sheets will be clean again, no matter what, so at least we know we'll have a club to support in the future, unlike some fans, but staying up this season sets the ball rolling on becoming established and increasing capacity and improving the team and doing just about everything we want to do in super-fast time rather than taking a step or two back before going forwards. we could even gain the extra money and go down next season. that isn't the point and i'll explain why. the point is that this season is the biggest in the clubs history in terms of what that extra revenue can do and what it means. we will, overnight, be £50m better off than every single club outside the premier league and THAT is ****ing enormous. is it fair? no way is it fair! i'm dead against it as it will increase the gap between the top flight and the rest to a distance which will be hard to ever close again. but is it massive for the club? hell yeah, and THAT is why we need to be on the right side of the fence when the post is delivered.
I just have noticed the change in atmosphere, especially on posts on here, now we are in our second season in the Prem. Believe me, the majority of the current Prem would rather we weren't there. They would love Celtic, Rangers, Birmingham, Palace, Leeds etc rather than us. They patronise with the "lovely" "quaint" "looked after" quotes but they do not want the east coast mob in their wacky races. I hope it all comes tumbling down. Trouble is I feed it to a certain degree by renting SKY. But I didn't ask them to throw billions at football and I do enjoy other sports such as golf, rugby etc.
You beat me by a nanosecond, gandy This table shows revenues club by club from last season, followed by a projection of what the equivalent will/would be this year. Very interesting indeed. We were £45.6m last year, but if, say, we finished 12th again, it would be nearly £74m!
i think i'll accept the lumpy 50mil increase (looks more like 25-30m - either way it's chunky) too many overseas TV revenue scenarios in that report wonky
Ok, I must be misunderstanding you here (and you know probably more about Pompey than I do!). Are you saying that Portsmouth invested in infrastructure and their academy and that cost them because they should have spent money on players, or that they only spent money on players and that was their downfall? I can't see a Southampton fan criticising a desire to improve the academy - yours is very impressive!
