we had a nest in a wall basket with 5 chicks... destroyed by magpies, all dead. They nest every year, male makes several nests and sings till a female takes notice, shows her nests and she chooses one. At some point they shag and the male buggers off and the female cares for the brood (I think?). Was in my garage working and heard the magtwats then my terrier comes racing out to chase them. Nest destroyed and chicks dead. Mother sitting on fence with a mouthful of grubs for her babies.

My wife's Mam passed away in March, her Dad died in 2015....he was 82. The seemingly never ending task of clearing the house continued today, and came across her dad's music collection.
Mainly vinyl, there was things like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Frank Sinatra, Rat Pack stuff etc. Jazz, Country & Western, Big Band type stuff....you know, the type of stuff from someone born during the 1930's.
In amongst it, to my total surprise, was this beauty.....

Problem with Magpies is humans have killed the apex predator. which is the Goshawk. Goshawk have been killed by gamekeepers for years and almost disappeared but there is a captive breeding activity taking place in the Borders. I've seen one and only one this year. Female Sparrowhawks can tackle them but prefer smaller targets so Magpies are spreading. We have caused the problem and we can help solve it - Death to all Magpies

I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin'
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin'
I saw a white ladder all covered with water
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children

    I think Mr Dylan wins.

Seen a bloke taking his pet snowy owl for a walk, the owl was on his head. As I saw this I could also hear Billy Ocean in the distance who’s been on at Herrington park tonight.

I doubt this will ever happen again

    You're right.

In SW France they don't have game shoots so no gamekeepers and endless birds of prey, all kinds.

We had an eagle swoop down, on the back field, that picked up a huge snake, it was still wriggling as it went out of sight.

Absolutely love the song but I think he nicked the basis of it from an ancient English or Scottish folk song.

I work for CUPA but out of Gateshead. If I’m down that way and there’s a match on I’ll give you a shout (more chance of something televised now we’re out of League 1. Usually stay next to the train station so can get around about easy enough. Apparently there are a few Sunderland in the area?
