Just what we needed that today Go in to the international break after a solid win. I've got to say though, it was credit to Arsenal last week and it's absolutely no credit to Fulham this week. I know the managers obviously having a mare but those ****ers playing today deserve their wages docking. They were abject ****e and deserve a good stoning. Felt we played well today, the first twenty or so wasn't quite as one sided as the rest of the game but 4-0 certainly didn't flatter us by the end. Great to see Coutinho back buzzing around, Suarez was class and the defenders had most of the afternoon enough. Credit to Skrts too Nice header.....we scored from a corner please log in to view this image
How was Sturridge? No one has really mentioned him, how he played, if he looked dangerous/should have scored etc?
He had a quiet game, but once Suarez got a goal you could see he was desperate to get one (same story against West Brom when Suarez bagged his hat-trick). Some times he needs to get his head up, thought he was very selfish today.
Was unlucky with the one effort that keeper pulled off a great save, although probably made it obvious where he was going. Henderson's through ball was beautiful for Suarez's first goal.
Just noticed when you look at our 7 wins this season, 5 have come against 5 teams in current bottom 6. Palace 20th Sunderland 19th Stoke 18th Fulham 17th Norwich 15th Plus WBA in 9th and United in 10th. Not putting a downer on our start, but we've certainly taken advantage of the teams at the bottom of the table which is what we have to do and 1st quarter has gone very well, but next quarter will show us exactly how good and close we are to being a top 4 team.
Agree with this,Ramires is already going down before contact. He sort of throws himself at the defender, poor decision from the ref IMO
This is what I've been saying. Sure, we've played Man Utd and Arsenal but one we beat more because they were poor than us being good, the other we deserved to lose (that might be a tad harsh, Arsenal deserved to win). However, at the risk of sounding like Jose Mourinho; if you beat the bottom ten home and away, that's a sixty point basis to work from.
Moan ****ing moan ****ing moan after moan!!! Season after season weyou moan that we lose/draw against 'lesser' clubs - now we don't and you still ****ing moan!
How is it moaning? Its recognising we're not as good as some of the teams in this league and pointing out that we are doing the business against the sides would should be beating. How is that negative?
It's not just "recognising we're not as good as some of the teams in this league" It's continual pointless harping-on. If there was some positive aspect to it then it might be acceptable - but there isn't. As for not being as good as some other teams, then who? We were not good enough on the day against Arsenal and Southampton but results still place us second in the league. It's the points in the locker and not the reps in the press that truly count and only 1 team are presently better. Sure the side can be improved - every side can but that's a different matter.
To put a positive spin on it - the fact we did beat them is party the reason they're currently in those positions. You can only beat what's in front of you and in previous season's it's teams like this we would consistently slip up against, so I'm more than happy we've changed that pattern. If you look back on last season Arsenal didn't do well against many of the top teams but still got fourth spot - If we beat all the teams below us and pick up a few points here and there against the top teams, realistically a top 4 finish is on. So far we lost away to Arsenal and beat Utd - so that's 3 points in the bag from 6 out of the top teams. Yeah we lost to Southampton but I fully believe that was a tactical error that lost us that game - unfortunately that happened, we just have to make sure we go to theirs and get the three points. We're sitting in 2nd and will be come the end of the day no matter the scores (unless Spurs put 8 past newcastle, and I can't see them getting 8 penalties!). So in my eyes everything is looking very good. It has been clear the last few season's our main problem was scrapping the lesser clubs and slipping up - so surely sorting out this issue had to first on our agenda, and we look like we've done that. Yeah we've got a pretty tough Christmas period coming up, but we knew that at the start of the season and have done ourselves proud in the build up to it, so bring it on.
the bread and butter of any top side is to put the boot into the bottom ten teams home and away and come away with as close to maximum points in those 20 games as possible... i.e as close to 60 points. We have IMO F'd up v newcastle and swansea, both of whom should be bottom half come the end of the year. all those sides clealry deserve to be on the bottom 6 and frnakly..... I wish we'd stuck more goals away!!!! example henderson blazing away from distance and over the bar, sturridge failing to pass to him when he had a tap in... I wanted 6 yesterday, was enjoying it and it went away, just a bit flat. For me we are doing the needful but need to keep improving as we have been over the past 12 months to compete at the top long term. 2nd is great. but it won't last unless we keep improving. Eyes on the prize IMO. to win a title we need (chortles) 8 players after all. January is going to be vital for us but our christmas games are going to decide our season in many ways. I'm looking forward to seeing sustained performances
It's all good at the moment imo, yes we can improve and yes we could have, should have done better in some games but every and I mean every team has bad results now and then but we are where we are and we should forget about the why's and what if's and enjoy the moment.
We have not played many top end teams yet though. Spurs, City, Chelsea, Everton. We can take them all!
