Thanks BTW Wiz, I should explain I am on a mac and it doesn't seem to work the same way.. I have done it once and forgotten, hey ho..
 
I'm using a mac at work, so my example...
I like to log into http://thechive.com/
find a pic you like, click on it, reopens in new window
click again and click copy image address
come into not606, click insert image, click on from URL, paste in image address, tick OFF 'Retrieve remote file and reference locally' Ok and Bob's your Uncle
