lol Southampton and Swansea are as big as Everton? Liverpool fans can be hilarious at times. Everton have won more trophies than Newcastle, Southampton and Swansea combined.
Wasn't the comment about the size of the job rather than the size of the club? Liverpool's trophy haul dwarfs those clubs you mentioned too but when we were looking for a new manager the size of the job was attracting Martinez/Rodgers sized managers and not Klopp/Guardiola. It has little to do with the size of the club, more to do with where the club are at the point in time when needing to replace the manager. Arsenal would be a step up for Martinez but it has nothing to do with either club's history.
I feel sorry for everton.. If heysel (NOT TRYING TO STOP A TOPIC ABOUT THIS) didn't happen they would of surely had a decent chance of winning the european cup and been able to kick on from there. As a result all english clubs slumped for the next years.
Until the last few years that was the case yes, but Liverpools absence from Europe has diminished that somewhat. Past trophies does have an effect on expectation though, for example, Liverpool fans, due to the success the club had in the 80's, have expectations of winning the league and being in the CL. despite not having won the league for 25 years. Swansea, having won very little in the past, expect far less results-wise. Everton are a far bigger club than Swansea, AND southampton. C'mon, I know they are your rivals but be real.....
This. Football was really bad in the 80's and English football ruled to roost club wise. England would have had at least 1 or 2 more CL winners in those years if we had not been banned for sure. Instead we slumped and the Italians rose to dominance.
Yeah I agree with that but my post was pointing out an obvious fact based on trophies won from your comment
Liverpool were the biggest club in the world in the 80's, so they will still have a huge reputation world wide with people old enough to remember that era. If success fades, the reputation also fades, albeit slowly. There was a whole generation of kids who had never been to Liverpool in their lives but started supporting them. Same thing in the 90's, every nipper supported Man United. Now we are getting more and more kids supporting Chelsea and City......its just the way it goes. Success brings fans, who bring money, which increases the reputation and size of the club. If Liverpool continue their title draught for another 25 years, then who knows what will happen
No-one was arguing that it wasn't, it was merely Diploma Dave making ridiculous comments about the size of the step that was being taken apart
I cant be arsed to argue on the internet on who is the biggest club tbh fella. I know we have a glorious history and get criticised for even daring to mention it! Yet other teams are allowed to mention theirs Since Jan 13 we have been very good at times and we finally look to be getting our house and team in order so exciting times for us. If we get back in cl this season then we hit our target for this year If we were to be in cl just for the record I'd like Everton to be there as well but not at Arsenals expense, at one of the sugar daddy clubs expense but that wont happen
Liverpool's lack of league titles has not seen the fanbase diminish, in fact it's exactly the opposite, the fanbase is growing! Newcastle have barely any trophies to speak of but have huge international support. Lack of success is no indicator of size of club and/or reputation although interestingly Chelsea's average attendance figures went up by 15,000+ in the late 90's following a few cup wins and up by another 2,000 from 2003 Other than a dip in the 80's [one of our most successful periods] when all clubs suffered lower attendances down to general poor country wide economy, Liverpool's attendances have been pretty much regular.
Sorry for adding to the derail. Who to replace Wenger - Moyes ..... he should be free if not next season, the one after
Moyes is nailed on for a league 1 club Will be very interesting to see who would replace him (Wenger) and how they get on. I ;ike him, reminds of a nice grandad but totally get the fans frustration
Now there was a case of a big step up if ever there was one, unfortunately he tripped over his ego, where he will land is anyone's guess. I like Wenger as well, I don't really know why, he just seems very ...... nice. I like Martinez for the same reason.
Yeah even though he's French and can be mardy at times he is a manager I've always respected and liked
What I'd like to know is where people get the information to say that Klopp and Martinez are realistically likely to join? Have either of them made any inclination that they would want to leave their respective clubs ? It all sounds like a bit of a wish list to me.
