he couldn't control the ball when it came to him. it bounced off him and in the end, players were forced to ignore him. i'm gutted to say it but he's finished at this level.

I think Chippy means if things haven't improved <yikes> by January, they'll be wary of letting him (CH) spend any more, on the proviso that the £25m he spent in the summer is not paying dividends. Throwing good money after bad, from a boardroom stance, if you like?

I'd imagine Becchio will be sold to a Championship side and CH will use the money from that. Middlesbrough again? lol, they love our players!

I appreciate that, but I have to say I really don't think Hughton has spent badly at all. A minor error with Butterfield, which happens, and the oddness that is Becchio which seemed to be more about removing Morison from the squad for reasons unbeknown to me. My real concern surrounds his ability to motivate the players and his understanding of their individual style, performance and best positions (other than for defenders). I think Hughton has a real eye for a player and he should still be allowed to spend in January even if the board are considering removing him in February/March if results haven't picked up. The reason I, personally, would go for December to remove a manager is simply because it allows your new manager to bring in his players, not because I believe the new manager will necessarily sign better players than Hughton would.

butterfield wasn't an error per se, he was a gamble. sometimes gambles don't pay off. as for becchio, i'm not really sure there is any great oddness to it. as far as i'm concerned it was a 'convenient buy' at the end of the window when we realised we weren't going to get hooper or rvw and in order to get rid of morison but not leave ourselves short he came in as back up to holt. he's not good enough though, hence the lack of games and by many accounts has never been able to get fully fit. he'll be out the door when the time is right. hughton's overall track record in the market is very, very good though - anybody who wants him out for his purchases really DOES have an agenda!! <laugh>
