https://safc.com/news/team-news/2022/may/pre-season-update Sunderland AFC will travel abroad ahead of their Sky Bet Championship campaign following Saturday’s Play-Off Final win over Wycombe Wanderers. The Black Cats will jet off to Portugal in July for two fixtures as part of their pre-season preparations for the 2022-23 season. First-team players will initially return to the Academy of Light for testing on 22 June, before playing a set of behind-closed-doors contests and heading to Portugal. On returning to Wearside, the Lads will round off their summer with four domestic fixtures before the Championship opener on 30 July. Supporters are advised that all pre-season fixtures will be played away from home due to concerts taking place at the Stadium of Light. Further information including dates, fixtures, venues and streaming will be communicated in due course.
It's great to see the club being proactive with this sort of announcement. And really transparent about when pre-season etc starts (22 June). And then how many pre-season games we have (2 in Portugal, 4 in UK) We are usually left to guess this kinda stuff.
Definitely, there is always criticism when they leave this sort of stuff too late for fans to make arrangements. good on the club for this, nice and early.
Dare I say that this feels like we are going to have an organised pre-season for the first time in forever? And by that I mean they seem to have mapped everything out. Bodes well both from a training perspective and a transfer perspective.
Just asked if I could go to Portugal in July and the answer wasn't no. It wasn't yes, bit it wasn't no
Sort of knew this was happening but a bit gutted, was hoping for someone else instead of Rangers. I've been booked up for a couple of weeks, just hope they don't act themselves.
