Portsmouths nine game winning run came to an end with a one goal defeat to coventry on tuesday, they are third in the form table and sixth in the league, with Ipswich only a point behind they will wont to get back to there winning ways to stay in a play off place.

after some poor performances and hte sound of booing ringing in there ears as they last game ended. we also have the injury blow htat Norburn may be out for the rest of the season, In his post match interview rickets has already said the team who badly underperformed will be playing Portsmouth. on paper it looks like another defeat for town.

Dave Edwards has stated it is high time Shrewsbury Town gave their supporters something to cheer following a 'really poor' run of results.

Town are without a victory in nine league games and supporters showed their frustration towards boss Sam Ricketts after Tuesday night's disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Accrington Stanley.

Hometown favourite Edwards, who captained Shrewsbury, insists it is time the side took responsibility and stood up to be counted on the pitch after the disappointing run has saw Ricketts' men slip from the fringes of a top six run to 17th and closer to the League One bottom three than a play-off berth.

"We as players need to take responsibility out there on the pitch, we have to make things happen."We knew it would be tough with the weather and amount of games but said we can't have any excuses. We've got to perform, go out and take initiative.
"I just felt as a team we didn't make great decisions on the ball, at times too safe, myself included, we took the easy pass when at times we need the more difficult pass to hurt teams."That's down to us on the pitch. We're disappointed. We've got a good group of players that need to react, I've been in this position too many times for my liking throughout my career.
"The only way you get out of runs like this is by doing the right things away from the pitch, in training, at home, and hopefully it'll come together. We just need a result.

Dave Edwards , Lang and Udoh are some of the few players to turnd up in the last game. if O'leary is not injured he needs to start
 
If we play like we did against Accrington we will get thrashed. That said, some of Ricketts teams best performances have been away to supposedly bigger teams. News of Norburn's injury means that our season is going from bad to worse - it's a shame that Walker and Vela are not fit as Edwards is overworked at the moment. Cannot see anything but another defeat on the cards and if the winless run gets much into double figures I cannot see Ricketts surviving it.

Portsmouth make a bright start but over the course of the first half a fairley even game; Beckles playing higher up and on the right,McAleny generating some real chances and looks to be towns main threat. what was better from town showing some attacking intent , much better distribution from Goss , Beckles forces the keeper to tip over the bar and McAleny forces a save.
whilst Hart must be rusty with little game time he really struggled and was caught out a few times and Williams had to bail him out, so no suprise to see Ramsey come on in the second half to replace him.

second half for fifteen minutes town on top creating chances ;Edwards and McAleny force saves and goss free kick hits side netting.
Pompey make a double substituition wich makes an impact as they come back in the game, a quality cross which Harrison heads in the net, O'Leary make's three saves to give town a chance.

double substitution from town towns best player McAleny getting subbed was a suprise Cummings and Lang not getting the service to make an impact, towns midfield looked to have run out of steam and ideas,we did not look as if we were going to get back in to this game when pompey finish us off 2-0.

when you have chances you need to score, when you have times when you are dominating a game you need somthing to show for it. we did not and we got punished by a team who did and can.
 
No surprise to see us losing there but at least we seem to have made a game of it. The players now have a full week to regroup and, even though we have said this before, the next two home games are absolutely vital. Support is draining away from the manager and he needs to win one of these games. Let's all try to be as positive as we can and get behind the lads - it is certainly time we had a break or two in front of goal.

the booing at half time and boring ricketts and you are getting sacked in the morning after the second goal at the last home game will have left ricketts in no doubt how an increasing number of fans view him. i dont like fans booing there own team or shouting coment at the manger.
the team tried but are just not clinical enough in front of goal.
we badly need to stop this poor run and as you say they will have a full week to recover.
we have to show some attacking intent if we sit deep and play negative football the fans will just get more vocal.
 
Agree, Zen though at the moment things just are not going for us - we just need that ball to drop to the right person in the box. Our goal scoring record in the league is absolutely awful this year and I can see why some fans are so fed up. The players must stay positive and believe they can win games. I reckon 40 points will keep us up this season but it definitely won't be enough next season so we need to see a big improvement soon.

when confience is low doubts seep in and players struggle with things they normallly can cope with or hesitate to do somthing all of which leads to errors .
recently when town go behind you can see the energy drain out of them and they struggle to raise there game. on a recent match of the day Roy Hodgson touched on these issues when you'r team is struggling to get results and he is a very experinced manager.
 
It is the lack of goals that is really killing us - when we go behind the players know we are unlikely to score to level things up. Other teams know we are unlikely to score and push up their wingbacks on us. The resulting pressure on the defence has lead to us conceding some pretty soft goals recently. The whole team needs to get on the front foot more - surely some of these chances we have will start to go in soon.
