Phillips said that didn't he, terrible description of a truly world class finish. The keeper done the right thing and tried to narrow the angle just he was made to look stupid due to the sublime finish by Jones.
1) He had to sprint to close the defender down 2) He had to dispossess the defender 3) He had to coolly slot it past the advancing keeper, who expected him to take the ball around him, which was why he left that gap for him to chip into It was far from being a formality.
I haven't watched the lads properly in a while, lots of other stuff going on, so was a real pleasure watching today. Not only was it a fantastic finish, but the way he read the move and started his run. It's those small things which we weren't doing before, reading the game, making those runs, and, yes, being in the right place at the right time. We have dominated possession through out the season, but only since LJ came in have we started to do something with it. I haven't been this confident since big Sam, when he came in and steadily improved our play. I'm looking at the top 2 spots and thinking "easy"
There's no doubt that if we play like that between now and the end of the season, we'll go up. The players have set a benchmark which they need to reach consistently, and I'm confident they will.
If that had been Allan Saint-Maximin it would have been acclaimed a work of sheer genius ... ... wtf is wrong with these pundits where we're concerned.
That's right mate. How many times have you seen Messi burst in to the penalty area at pace and make the keeper look a duck egg? Pundits wax lyrically when he does it, but blame the keeper, the defender, Uncle Tom Cobley and All, rather than give our player the credit he richly deserves.
Kp is slowly loosing all the street cred he gained up here just because you didn't get the mangers job don't get huffy, all the other pundits show favouritisms why cant you. OR WERE YOU THE WRONG WAY
Superb performance and YES, it WAS a penalty, the replays show it as clear as day. But hey, one went our way for a change, nice. Got to fancy us for top 2 now.
The ball flew miles off towards our right back. That’s physically impossible if Flanagan doesn’t play the ball first. Never a penalty in a million years
How was it a penalty? I’d love an explanation on how, when a defender plays the ball first before the man, it should be a penalty
I watched it 4 or 5 times on Sky after the game. Flanagan booted him, mate. It was a clear penalty as you'll ever see.
He caught him but he played the ball first is my point. If you tackle a player, get ball then man it’s not a foul, how is that any different?
I don't even think he touched the ball but if he did he might have skimmed it but he followed through and literally booted the bloke to the floor.
That’s impossible mate. The ball ends up 30 yards to the right back. Didn’t go past Flanagan and their player tried to flick it past him. It’s physically not possible fir the ball to end up where it did if he didn’t get the ball first. Also, when a defender clears the ball and his follow through catches a forward, that’s normally a yellow card for the forward in most places on the pitch (slightly tongue in cheek there but true all the same) I can’t ever agree it was a penalty as he played the ball before the man definitely. He caught him after playing the ball but you can’t stop your leg from moving after kicking a ball
Think I missed voting but would of been a win for me and for the rest of the games this season. Looks like we've cracked it barring a complete melt down. What a difference from the turgid shìt we've become accustomed to. Can't wait for Sunday now
One of the improvemnets i've seen in Wyke since LJ has come in is his strength. It's almost as if under Parky he was told to go to ground at the slightest touch whereas under LJ he's told to stay up and make them fight and therefore create space.
either that or LJ put him on a diet of beans and mushy peas, that will make defenders slower to tackle that smell......
Gotta say I disagree here. If the defender gets the ball then snaps the attacker in half, it's a red card, always. See it regularly in the Prem, defenders penalised despite winning the ball because the follow-through takes the man. Having said that, **** 'em. 2-0 have that ya ****es
