These are all players that could take half a season to get back on the pitch and anyone’s guess as to how long they take to get back up to speed, if they do. But I do think just two quality full backs and a quality striker and we will have a much, much more capable side.
Zambrano is potentially a better replacement for alzate Maybe Its telling to me that Selles didnt pick alzate in any of these crunch games
The managers Portsmouth's John Mousinho: "I thought it was important to try and stay unbeaten towards the back end of the season, we managed to do that. "Five games unbeaten is a really good return, considering we didn't have anything to play for in the last two in terms of relegation. "I'm really happy with that although I thought the performance was awful for 20 minutes. "As soon as the Hull goal went in the lads actually realised that we were in a game and we were much more professional after that." Hull's Ruben Selles: "It's always very difficult to come here and play against Portsmouth. "We obviously wanted to get the three points, because that way we didn't need to think about anything else. "After we conceded that goal we made one step backwards and it is very difficult with the emotion of the day. "We knew towards the end with the other results that one point would be enough so we made the decision to try to defend. Everyone was fully invested in the task. "The fans were amazing. We had the talk with the players this morning and said that in 20 years' time we will remember this game, even if we will do it or not. "The most important thing is to have no regrets about what you do because it has been a really very painful season for them and for us together. "You need to enjoy those victories because it's not often when you hit those moments."
Why not howden. We are not entitled, we are where we deserve to be. We also had a lot of bad injuries to key players and a lot of poor refereeing decisions( as well as a couple of fortunate ones) We really should be celebrating that we didn't go down, because that would have sent the club into financial meltdown
SO!!! Does anyone know whether Selles is regarded with respect by the players or is he a fired-manager-walking?
I don't think it matters whether or not the players respect him,the owner makes the calls and he looks as if he's seen enough. I've been saying for a few weeks in private conversation with a few of the lads on here that I thought he'd sack him regardless of today's result, that's the way he rolls...
BBC version... We will remember this day for years' - Selles Hull City boss Ruben Selles speaking to BBC Radio Humberside: "I'm very proud of the courage and the way the players managed the game on the pitch. "Everyone in the club managed difficult moments and it has been a tough season for everyone and we deserved to stay in the division. "We had a team that was rock bottom and to achieve the target this season with all the injuries and everything else is just massive. "Now it's over and we crossed the line, we can rest a little bit and I told the players that we will remember this day for years to come." 'Time to take a break from the relentlessness' - Mousinho Portsmouth boss John Mousinho speaking to BBC Radio Solent: "It was important to stay unbeaten towards the back end of the season and five unbeaten is a good return. The performance today was awful for 20 minutes but I guess some of it can be expected. "The progress this season is a really good sign of where we are as a club and a fantastic achievement - everyone can be very proud of what we have done. "But football doesn't wait for anyone, we have to go again, but for now we can take a break from the relentlessness."
There’s 2,500 fans there celebrating, they absolutely should be celebrating with them, whatever happened earlier in the season, they got the job done today.
Selles becomes our first sort of successful foreign manager. Deserves another go but whether Acun agrees, if he stays, who knows.
I’m going up the east coast of Scotland 21st may for 5 days, looking forward to it as we normally do the west coast. Not been to Aberdeen since I was 17 so will be totally different now.
Yes it's very nice, I used to live in the nearby town of Arrochar and my back garden was a mountain .
Why all this talk of Acun keeping or sacking Selles? I thought folks on here had said it was FACT he'd lost all interest and was binning us off? I think his missus looked as anxious and as relieved as me this aft. Hopefully the nonsense can now stop (again).
Yes agree should not be beaten on his near post ,but overall he has had a great season and deserves the accolades he has received.
