They really should re-name that bloody rag... Definitely take out the Hull as it bears no resemblance to the City we live in...
I doubt I've been to a fraction of the places you have been, but I feel I've been to enough places to have a reasonable idea, and whenever I'm out and about locally, I often think how spoiled we are with all the nice scenery and interesting things that are right on our doorstep. Add in the mainly friendly faces I meet and talk to, and it just adds to the good feeling. One problem is that negative images stick with us far more than the positives, especially if we allow them to. You can drive for miles with no problem, passing 1,000's of cars with no issues, or even have pleasant experiences, but the one arsehole that does something daft will be the thing that sticks in the mind, but only if you let it. It's the same with other experiences. They are what you make them or allow them to be.
That site and others like it have people from everywhere knocking their own places. I was in Northumberland year before last in a village between Amble and Alnwick. According to one of those sites comments from their own residents suggested a visit there was akin to visiting. Beirut during their civil war and full of drunks. Both pleasant places. When I got home I looked up some of the other places I had been. Places in Dorset and the New Forest were not the rural idyll I thought they were but awful places they wanted to leave.
It could do with looking into things before getting on its high horse. Though there are similar articles in other local papers. Gone downhill since becoming part of the group which owns the Mirror. The Daily Express has declined since being part of it as well.
There have been a number of articles claiming Hull is the worst in the UK for things, and a search of the other sites in the media group showed exactly the same article, but with the place name changed to that area. To make it worse, a number of the factors they quoted couldn't possibly apply in all cases. They are not journalists, they are marketers pushing click bait to generate advertising income.
Which I'm sure Bird folk appreciate, as it gives them the opportunity to get away to somewhere nice now and again.
I am guessing, no I am willing to bet, there are more Hull folk taking advantage of Brid on a weekend than vice versa. And bird folk.
As I said in another reply downhill since become part of the Mirror group. Other areas are complaining of the same thing. Though all local papers for years have been overly sensitivity over and slight, perceived or genuine, against their city,
