Southend were down to ten men when they scored the equaliser, one of their subs came in the 61st minute and sent off in the 65th minute for fighting, against ten men, Skates do the Southampton (of old) thing against ten men and concede two goals.
Same. I don't wish any further misery on them, but it's rather hard not to laugh when you check the BBC text and see them 1-0 up at home against ten men, only to check back a few minutes later and discover that they've lost.
Careful...that can happen to any team. Especially bad if you didn't know it was a late k.o. Always kills me when Saints are the last match to finish...that seems to happen a lot.
We are struggling at the back badly - going forward we look good most of the time but a clean sheet is just something I don't expect to see week in and week out at the mo. I'm sure it must be warming to some to see us in a sorry state and possibly some of us felt we'd do better than we are - I thought we'd be about 10th by now... hey ho most important is we are still here. May I genuinely say I have been impressed with your mob this season...the pressing style is very reminiscent of the AC Milan side of the 80's and the fitness level of any team maintaining that has to be commended...you are more than holding your own and will continue to do so. I do think you need a quality keeper...not the Cryuff turn at all - just always thought it's an area you need to strengthen in the top division....if you can prise him away I would recommend Handanovic of Inter - very solid and a great shot stopper.
Portsmouth are 5 points off the drop with a better GD...that is usually enough if you start picking up the odd points. You need to get a manager in and soon...a couple of wins on the back of that can improve Pompey's position.
Agreed, and that's why I actually wish Pompey well...I'd like to see that ownership model succeed. But at the same time, I didn't take to using Schadenfreude as an online handle for nothing.
Crawley manager Richie Barker now 1/3 to get the Pompey job. A close friend of Mark Catlin, the chairman, who appointed him at Bury.
Talking of late goals...it's quite a while since we let in a late goal that mattered, isn't it? We used to do it all the time, but we seem to have stopped that nasty habit.
Don't jinx us!! For what it's worth I think Pompy will comfortably stay up and end up around 11th/12th
It is succeeding... at Exeter. Pompey's ownership model is based upon half the club being owned by a few individuals, who also make ALL the decisions, with as far as I can tell, very little transparancy & accountability to those "normal" fans who pledged money into the Pompey Trust. Plus of course, none of it would have happened at all without Sky parachute payments. So, in my view, Pompey is no more a fan owned and run club than Saints were when we were listed on the stock exchange with Lowe & his cronies owning a controlling share & doing what they wanted.
Both Barker and his assistant, who he might want to take with him, signed 2 year deals in May 2013. Therefore Pompey would have to pay compensation for them, and I expect they'd currently be on a wage above what the majority of League 2 clubs pay. I can't see them being able to afford it, I think they'll be looking at those whose contracts expire at the end of this season, or someone without a club. That leaves Martin Allen as probably the most realistic target that I've heard so far.
I forgot about the money side of it. I wonder what compensation Whittingham is entitled to....I suspect that his contract was in Portsmouth's favour as they have little money and he seemed to want what was best for them. There are always managers out of work so they should be able to get someone, but they may have to lower their sights a bit. They need an experienced lower league manager capable of inspiring a demoralised group of players...mostly on short term contracts.
You mean capable of inspiring a demoralised group of **** players (Wallace, Connelly and Holmes being the exception)
But surely playing in front of big Fratton Park crowds and in the word of the pending trade mark... "the best fans in the world"... any player will be inspired and busting a gut every game?
You know, Southampton fans use that phrase far more than we do. Keeping repeating a myth doesn't make it true.
That wouldn't be the worst thing they could do. He was only talking about being refused jobs during his Monday Night Football slot the other week. I bet his CV is in at Pompey right now.
