Only Liverpool fans could be worried about a 5 nil lead as not enough. <laugh>

Klopp on potential resting of players against Porto

Jürgen Klopp has dismissed the suggestion he will 'rest' players when Liverpool host FC Porto in the second leg of their Champions League tie.

The Reds hold a commanding 5-0 lead from the first meeting last month, when Sadio Mane’s hat-trick and goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino stunned the Portuguese league leaders.

But Sergio Conceicao’s side have won all four of their matches since that night and Klopp’s respect for Porto will strongly influence the line-up he selects at Anfield on Tuesday.

“It’s not about rest. We have to see,” said the manager immediately after the Premier League win against Newcastle United at the weekend.

“I have not thought a second about the line-up against Porto, but they have won all their games since we played them. They now have a big lead ahead of Sporting. They will strike back, that’s what they want.

“They are Portuguese and proud and will give a fight. They want to strike back. If anybody here thinks they come here and give the game up, leave their star players at home or whatever, they are mistaken.

“It’s Champions League and the whole world is watching. I don’t think for a second about resting anybody.

The last thing we need is to be complacent. Porto have nothing to lose they are coming to play.

Not often I disagree with you solid :)
But - this time I am happy for him to keep the squad as normal. Was thinking originally - yeah let’s just throw on the reserves, however - we have built a good head of steam here.

Yes Salah or firmino could get injured, but they could get injured training so...
We as fans have been moaning about not having a settled defence so gonna put my faith in klopp and assume he knows his players.

We defo shouldn’t be suffering burnout so let them play :)

IMO theres a case that on 60mins players start t come off here so really i can see one player being on bench from slaah and firmino and nobody would bat an eyelid at us doing that.

We can play the full team sure and sub off either.

Really if the game develops into a passing pattern similar to that of the first leg i doubt many players will be tired by the end

Klopp seems to have managed the squad fitness well up to this point, he's rotated when it seemed like the wrong decision but everyone seems full of energy at the moment. Hopefully it'll be to our advantage right through to the end.

One or 2 changes for Porto and then use all subs once we get to the hour mark.

Apart from the front 3 the rest of team has been constantly rotated all season but this time i would be amazed if at least 1 of Firm or Salah isn't rested.

    I hope not.
All the people on here who still don't feel safe with a 5-0 advantage will be crapping themselves if we go down by a goal or two.
The last thing we want is to be complacent and let them back into the game to the point where we start to doubt ourselves.
A strong line-up can play our normal tried and tested game, but within themselves so they don't have to exert themselves too much.
No disrespect to Newcastle, but I felt we played that way against them.
If we leave too many key players out then the system has to be changed and that's where we start to unravel.

Three nil thrown away against Servilia and Arsenal and 4:1 becoming 4:3 against city is nothing to write home about.
