Then we might as well promote Max Thompson?
He has represented England at most youth levels and has been in our first team squad.

I keep getting this feeling that despite signing players for the development squad they will never get to realise their potential as never given a chance

Anyone can represent England at youth levels, Jak Alnwick did, and he was dire and League One at best.

The said fact is pretty much all the kids we have aren't good enough and will never play in the first team. A few exceptions recently with Miley, Anderson and Longstaff, but we shouldn't just be promoting the kids, they're a huge risk.

Might as well scrap them then.

That's called doing a Keegan. It's good for the local community if nothing else, gets young kids into football and being properly developed. Most end up playing for teams like Blyth Spartans, but at least they're playing. No club has had significant numbers of youth team players regularly coming into the first team for years.

So where have all these star players who play week in week out in the PL and other leagues come from? Did they turn 23 and voilà they are now ready?
