Poor old Tom

As you all know Old Tom is a rich northern ale only sold in halves when draught. It has a good body and always gives one the chance of scoring!

Well Salop have got another striker on loan (the total loanees is seven and only five allowed in squad!)
The new guy has scored THREE goals in 21 appearances but two of those were in six minutes in one match......so his record is one goal in TWENTY games. Jacobson has done better than that.

So our top scorer won't even make the bench, again. This raises an important question (or two): What is Tom's future? and Which, if any, of the loanees will become permanent? None of this bodes well for the future.

It seems that nothing changes.

However, we can't buy people right now so perhaps we should be putting the pennies in the piggy bank for our storming start to life in Division 2, commonly known as the fourth level of English football.

Increased competition is one thing that has happened I suppose. Is this the end of toms town days or will he rise to the challenge that is provided and start a match again.

Smeltzch has gone back to Oldham too.

I don't think Bradshaw is as effective on heavy pitches - he may well make the bench anyway. I do agree with the general argument on loan signings - they have been an absolute disaster this season and one of the main reasons for our current predicament. Lets hope we can learn the lessons from this whatever league we are in next season.

GHMM, you raise an interesting point...what would have happened if we had persisted with homegrown or full time employees?....maybe they would have improved and grown into a team.

Bradshaw didn't improve when given the chance early in the season. Yes, he scored a few goals but never really looked the part. If we had signed a striker or 2 in the summer (like we should have), he would have rarely started. Taylor has failed to progress and even gone backwards. Goldson, although showing promise,-the jury is out. Widig has been a success but that was largely because he was given the chance to play centre midfield. Woods again a success but still has been involved in giveaway goals.

Of the older brigade, Parry started off the season well but then got injured which had a dteremental effect on the team. Still. always worth his place. Summerfield has been reliable and McAllister has done OK since his recall. The least said about Mkandewire and Winfield the better. Jacobson, for the most part, has been excellent. Weale has suffered extremes-made some excellent saves but interspersed with pretty poor mistakes.

All in all, I am not certain we would have done better with youngsters and contracted players. The quality of loan players has let us down (Reach alone excepted). Something wrong with our recruitment, not having too many loan players per se.

we need an old stager up front who can score a few and bring our younger pemanent players on. at present we have a an unripened lemon tree full of unripened fruit, give the tree a good shake jacko. next season we bring on our own, full stop. perhaps are not inconsiderably used top scorer of 5, may remain our top scorer of 5 in May!!, unless a loanee lemon can cut the mustard and pdq. now who will score the winner for town today! a penalty perchance?

like i said a couple of times last season...we should have gone in for Andre Gray at Luton, we would have got him cheap as chips, now he's holding out for the highest bidder...why do we keep bothering getting players in on short term loan deal, who have no alliance to us and cant even get in their host first team!!...just stupidity!
