I was pretty crap at it though. Deathclaws made me **** myself and if I saw a Centaur I'd put a bullet through my own head.
I have to say, if these predictions are accurate, it's hard to imagine football surviving another 200 years. Everyone will be busy playing virtual reality COD.
Who cares, by 2060 everyone will be so good at football it'll be pointless. Humans will be so perfectly programmed they won't make a single mistake and every game will end 0-0.
Unfortunately that will be far too late for me but if it does happen it is going to cause you young lads who will be around then some really serious questions about how you stop population growth. Some quite important ethical questions to be addressed and the whole issue of human evolution and genetic diversity will be a major issue. With regards to language I was always taught that French evolved from the the rough latin spoken by ordinary legionaires and even today it horrifies the Italians.
The only permanent fix I can see for this issue is getting more land. And by that of course I mean other planets. It is physically possible, but it's going to take a hell of a lot more effort than is currently being given, and it'll be a good long while. The current funding for NASA is disgraceful considering that they are tasked with preserving mankind in the long run.
Technology or not...people never change and that is both a bad and an uplifting thing. The main effect of technology in everyday life is on entertainment (TV, music, computers)...people take the bit they like and carry on living in a very similar way to their parents and grandparents. p.s. apparently the commonest spoken language in ancient Rome was greek!
Nasa are already looking for recruits for a 2030 trip to Mars. 6 months out, one and a half years to get into the correct position for a return and 6 months back. Maybe you should volunteer Joe!
Population growth is already sorted by that website with full colonisation and even terraforming of Mars.
IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FAR FUTURE THERE IS ONLY WAR (and if you get that you misspent your youth in the same way as me) In my personal opinion humanity wont be around in 2060, apart from possibly scattered groups of nomads wandering the wasteland. At the rate were currently destroying the planet civilisation in it's current form will struggle to hold on for another 10-20 years before exploding in nuclear war. It's depressing, but as Openheimer said 'The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears it is true.'
I've only ever seen Deathclaws once or twice, but they are pretty scary. It was the Gau-Yaoi or whatever they're called (mutated bears) that really annoyed me though. I'd be pretty rubbish in a Fallout universe, I think. Interesting site though, but it seems to be saying extinction of wildlife and destruction of the rain forest is an inevitability and I'm not sure that it is, but here's a video that's strangely relevant to this thread:
It so is, in the entire history of humanity, has short term gain been sacrificed for the long term general good?
At my age and with my third family growing I am really concerned when I think about their future, Film makers are now producing films related to the topic with alarming regularity but little seems to be done by the various associations with the power to change things.
Well yes, of course but I think people are much more ethically aware nowadays, as can be seen by the increase in people who can quickly recognise the Fair Trade logo. Perhaps in sub-Saharan Africa and Central and Southern America, it may be likely but the website mentions mass wildlife extinctions in the UK which I don't think people would accept especially with organisations like the RSPB, RSPCA. Even in the Amazon, I think there may come a point where people don't accept any more destruction although I do not know at what point that may be. Then again, it could be like Gotye sings: "Some people offered up answers We made out like we heard, but they were only words They didn't add up To a change in the way we were living And the saddest thing- Is all of it could have been avoided But it was like to stop consuming is to stop being human And why would I make a change if you won't" Ha! I wouldn't like to cuddle one though
Aren't they doing one-way trips? It'd be awesome going to Mars, but I don't think I'd be up for staying there. Keep in mind that mankind is really good at acting right at the last minute. We put things off as long as we possibly can, and get them done just before the deadline.
Good point, apart from the fact that looking at the readings from the Greenland Ice shelf and the pack ice situation in the Antarctic, the deadline may have already passed...
Anyone that would like to read a thoroughly good story about the colonisation of Mars, should try the trilogy of books by Kim Stanley Robinson. Red Mars, Green Mars and Blue Mars. I can't recommend them highly enough.
