Martin O'Neil has already stated that as the season closes he will be trying different players, different positions, different tactics. Results were always going to take a bit of a knocking, I personally don't mind as the single goal for me was for Sunderland not to be relegated and he brought that success in style.

Next season I have no doubt we will be a totally different team once he has brought in his own players, so for now just reflect on where we were and how far he has brought us.

I would also like to add that it must be taken into consideration that certain players know they will be leaving and players will know that the job has been done by securing survival. Whether any of us agree with that or not it is a fact of life but going on from next season onwards, as already stated I cannot see this happening again under MoN. This has been a season of transition, write it off and look forward to the next one. I know I have

No but by having a right pop at a manager that has had no money or time to prepare for a January transfer window but who has still delivered survival at a hat canter with a complete shower of ****e and only been here for 4 and a bit months, you have certainly shown yourself up for the embarrassing 10 watt bulb footballing intellect you possess.

Because if you've ever managed groups of people Mon's, you will understand that motivation and performances are not something you can just switch on and off. Martin inherited a depressed and down beat dressing room and almost over night changed enough of the daily routine and management style to accommodate a change of atmosphere and direction. He would have impressed upon them that the only goal was EPL survival and the importance of maintain that for the club, which to be fair, resulted in an upbeat on field performances. He played the only card he had to deal in McClean and for the first 10/12 games or so it worked well and enough was done to secure the job but that effect wore off once we achieved our goal and we slumped back into the the pre MoN regime with players who knew that under this manager their days are numbered.

Managing someone else's team was a difficult job and he used all his know how and experience to achieve it. Now he has to mould his targets in the summer to fit in with those he will keep, in order to begin his 2nd task - to improve us as a team and club from where he started.

I don't dispute that mate, but the facts are he got the team motivated, then it's tailed off again.

I'm not being naive, i'm stating a fact.

As i've maintained all through this thread, my faith in MON getting it right this summer remains 100% intact.

MON inherited a squad that was not of his choosing,and one that looked like it was going down.In november,we would have been happy with finishing 14th!!Let's get this season over and give our manager a chance to build his own squad.

It appears to me that without a proper right/left back, no right winger and no Richardson, Bendtner not fit enough to start the game, and a makeweight centre forward in Ji whose hardly featured in any games this season, and Campbell coming in who I put in the same league as Ji owing to his injuries and lack of matches, we went to Fulham who are on a great run especially at home, kept them to within one goal and that was off a deflection to win the game, and missed some good chances ourselves, ie Campbell not being match fit for a striker, then I don't think we should view today's result with such doom and gloom, god knows what we will achieve when we have a first eleven playing or am I being niave, like a lot of others lets get this season finished, scupper Manures chances next Sunday and enjoy the summer break and look forward to some astute signings. Cest' you are being belligerent here fella! I never even had a pop at O'Neill. Just posed some questions. We would have been relegated had he not come, which is what I said earlier. I was having a pop at the squad that can achieve great heights and the fall back.

Maybe they just had a kick up the butt when O'Neill came and now they have fallen back.

I think the last few games have shown how much we miss Larrson.

Disagree that we cannot Pick fault with MON. Especially with O'Shea. Yes we know he is playing with Bruce's squad and MON was the manager I really wanted and I can't wait for his signings to come in. I'm sure he'll make a mistake or two with his summer signings too it's the nature iof the beast.

My biggest fear is he is not backed. As I think he is the best manager we have ever had in my time! HE STILL SHOULD NOT PLAY O'SHEA AT RIGHT BACK!!

After reading three pages of comment & having an opinion, reading the above was refreshing.

Six months ago we were odds on to be relegated but by February were odds on to stay up. I've been brought in a few times during my working life to save a building from falling down. Before you can rebuild you've got to access what you've got to work with which often requires rearranging the furniture when there’s not enough budget to demolish completely for a total rebuild.

I'm confident that the Martin O'Neil has been testing players out of position, quite confidently in the knowledge that some will fail to be able to make the grade while others will show the promise.

I've done it many times prior to removing employees from their job!

Having just read all the foregoing the element of everybody is right is pretty evident but the opinion is allowable.

The big picture is we were sinking when MON arrived and he delivered not only stability but bouyancy to move ahead without spending a penny. Short has seen how MON works and they have hopefully forged a good relationship and can deliver what we all want - a team and club to be proud of.

Not-cricket and me are from the same era - we always wanted a win but if we didn't we had seen a blodey good game and had our moneys worth.

He's giving players chances to make a claim for a place, and most are ****ing it up, so hopefully will be gone.

The squad is basically crap, but they are still professional players and letting themselves and everyone down, inc. MoN.

Never said at any time he is a god, I just said after 4 months trying to save our season using someone else's ****e, failed squad and getting us 11th from 18th, he deserves to be given a chance before the knives start to sharpen. Even by our fickle standards this thread is embarrassing imo.

MON has done a good job with some poor players and deserved all the credit for moulding Bruces team and getting the results he did with them. However he does deserve the grief as well for getting it wrong with the same players against the same teams that done for Bruce. I've said all along that next season will be the teller when MON gets his own players in, the honeymoon is definitely over now welcome to Sunderland.

Nobody can tell me that Gardner is a RW. Nobody can tell me that O'Shea is a RB.

Colback is a better LB than O'Shea is a RB, same for Bridge. So I have no clue as to why O'Shea is picked at RB apart from MON deciding that he doesnt want to drop either Killa or Turner but feels the need to pick O'Shea who was doing very well at CB. Hell, Gardner makes a better RB than O'Shea.

Campbell, Sess, and Elmo are all better bets at RW than Gardner, so that was an obvious experiment. Elmo might not be the best RW, but he is a more natural choice to play there than Gardner.

MON has done a bloody brilliant job since he came here, but he should be honest about using the last few games to test the depth of the squad, rather than telling us we will try and win then picking a weak team.

As i said in my post there, I haven't lost any faith in MON.

BUT, he is not beyond reproach, he had failed to motivate the team for 4-5 weeks now, that can't be dismissed.

He motivated them for his first 13 games, so what's changed?

Simple, goals have dried up from midfield and our current crop of strikers cannot score. I personally think the team has turned up for most games, but we seem incapable when chances present themselves, as with yesterday and I mean Ji Campbell and Bendtner of putting their foot through the ball and finding the back of the net.

MoN was brilliant in coaxing goals from midfield but that particular well was always going to run dry, thank heavens for a LB of McBardo

Gardner and Vaughan (whoever is playing) seems to have stopped trying to shoot from a distance. I cant remember Gardner having a proper crack at goal in the last few games.
