Well, that appears to have been a good performance. It seems that there is more movement from the front playera which is creating chances. This might be because at the moment there is no target man, so the attackers being more mobile are interchanging, are helping set each other up. Interesting to note Callum Johnson's contribution. I just wonder if there was a clear the air discussión after the Doncaster defeat, Kenny has listened and the players have responded?
Northampton Town came to defend using 'spoiling tactics' which worked for the first 30 minutes or so. After that we took over, with the front players changing positions, with winger Ryan Williams ending up playing just behind John Marquis in attack, and Harness and Curtis playing wide. It appears to have thoroughly confused the Northampton defenders who ended up not knowing which player they should have been marking. Home to Charlton on Saturday should be interesting !!
i have been away for a few days so had some catching up to do watching the ifollow replays of the Sunderland and Northampton games. It is difficult to put a finger on what has gone right all of a sudden! Certainly the Pompey mid field imposed itself on both games and the intent and energy of Williams and Cannon were factors. There has been some over reliance on goals coming from set pieces so it was good to see all goals in these two games coming from open play (except the penalty).. Also good to see Marquis picking up two 'right place at the right time' poachers goals against Northampton. Bring on Charlton. PUP
