I have to agree.... i've been to many grounds around the country and not one have i come across and thought ''wow, i wish the KC had an atmosphere like this'' as everywhere seems to be silent.. even Stoke City didn't live upto the expectations and as said above Leeds are quiet at home and last season Forest were also quiet... West Ham hasn't seemed very lively (from what ive seen on the tv) this season. So the KC is no different to any other club.. its very much a hit and miss you get those pin drop games, the mediocre games and also the loud games. Away support is always louder because youve travelled to watch your team so ofcourse youll want to sing your hearts out to be noticed and obviously drown out any hopes of the home fans singing back.
Millwall and Stoke are the only grounds where I can remember the home support being impressive, I'm sure there's a couple of others, but I can't remember them.
I was speaking from our last fixture with them in the relegation season (i was sat in the stoke end) and frankly it wasn't any different to the KC although i did enjoy Delilah
Pompey's is pretty decent actually (though the second time I went, Dowie's first game, none of their fans would have given a **** as they were already relegated). I suppose drummer and bell boy could get a bit irritable over a full season though.
I was watching that game in a karaoke bar in Hong Kong and I couldn't believe we went from winning to losing in the last two minutes. It was the season before that I was there being annoyed by the drummer, and the stewards, who are some of the worst in the country.
Their makeshift band stand or whatever is just in that corner near the away fans as well. The stewards there are ****e, Fratton and Villa are probably the worst I've experienced. I was on the second row and could hardly see a thing because they said 'we had to sit down.' Glen Johnson's volley was heading straight for my head though
Aston Villa away on that bank holiday monday in our first season (the one when Ash got injured, we lost 1-0 Carew scored) that was the most shocking away experience i'd had.. the stewards were ****e! Along with the home fans... my best moment was when in the stand next to us some villa fan was running up and down with a whistle telling them all to sing and the city fans were singing ''who's the ****er with the whistle''. Wigan away FA 3rd Round last year was also shocking.. not because of the stewards... because of the journey there! talk about snow along the m62 and what was the turnout 3,000 or something? 500 city fans.. you could literally talk to the wigan fans in the other stands
A bit odd, Pompey are no longer selling tickets for the game at their ticket office: http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Hull-Ticket-Update-2553.aspx? It's pay on the gate, so I don't suppose it really matters, but some people travelling a long way often like to know they already have a ticket and I can't see why they stop selling them so far ahead of the game.
A bit of an overstatement there isn't it? It's difficult to compare as there are so many variables, promotions, prem etc, but starting from a realistic base year, clock in the reduction in away fans, holidays and a bit for the recession and numbers look reasonable for this stage of a season. When they dropped out of the top flight, some numbers for self described big clubs dropped by much, much more.
Yes but for most of the home games last season we reached over 20,000 fans at home games. I know for a fact from what people have been saying on here and on other boards etc that its because of the poor style of football seen recently at the KC, very negative and defensive and many have vowed not to return until NP's tactics change or until NP goes himself. Not my words so dont shoot !!!
We got on the train at Dewsbury and came out the other end of the big tunnel outside Manchester looking like we'd arrived in Norway! Poor attendance and pretty awful game as well! Although it was great to see a ground like Eastlands and the talent on show, going to Man City in our first pl season and watch us get spanked and see the infamous on the pitch team talk made it an unhappy trip home. Though by far the worst trip i've had was to walsall in 2005, we'd just got promoted and looked like we were hungover as ****, Walsall outclassed us 3-0 with us offering very little!
We've only played London clubs and Blackpool so far, once there's a few local derbies in the mix and a few decent results, there won't be that much of a drop in our average attendances.
I think there are many reasons for attendences dropping, kids have just gone back to school from summer holidays would guess this is a costly time for parent (dont have kids so wouldnt know), along with it generally been "holiday time" of year, add to that the general state of the economy (me and the missus are around £1k worse for a year already) and some people will have to pick what they spend there money on, the price of petrol for those travelling (I live down south and it costs me a tenner more now then it did 2 yrs ago), and of course the drop from the premiership (think some thought we might go straight up when not likely left, typical "plastic" fans) will all be impact factors in the drop. On the football front, uninspiring performances dont help, I have seen 6 games since New Years day defeat to Leicester (I work abroad a lot) and think I have seen 5 goals scored. Atmoshere wise OLM is right, most home crowds are poor now, I put it down to allocated seating. I think East stand should be a "free" stand, you just get allocated a block, then you can sit anywhere in that block
20,000 including away fans, so no great change. Most City fans don't post on messageboards, so a few comments by a minority of a minority that generally get shouted down for talking ****e anyway is hardly supporting your cause. To quote such nonsense makes it your words and well worth a shot.
