It's not supporting Pompey though! it's about wanting West ham to lose for our benefit! You'd rather West ham win and maybe go 3 points above us then?
I won't be supporting Pompey so much as wanting them to win so we can maintain top spot. Ideally I want them to get a contentious penalty and then consistently get flukey with offisde decisions and the like. In this manner, we maintain our lead and can dervie satisfaction that Pompey fans will secretly know that they really lost the game but the ref played a shocker and disallowed two legitimate West Ham goals.
Clever thread this. I'd like Pompey to win of course, But! How many of the "I hope Pompey/Skates etc; always lose" brigade would be so keen say, if it were the last day of the season, and a Pompey win would gaurantee Saint's promotion, but a Pompey loss result in another year in the Championship? My guess is they would like Pompey to win, but none of them are going to admit it on here. Are they?.....
I am happy to admit I would like Pompey to win on Saturday and any other time that would help Saints. I would also like them to beat Brighton because at the moment they are top of my hate list.
Were the situation reversed, (not likely, atm, I know!) I would be the same. If Pompey were to benefit from Saints winning a match, it's a no brainer (I chose that term carefully).
Is it OK to now come out and admit to wanting Pompey to win on occasions when it didn't help Saints. 1992 (?) Cup Semi-Final when they played and should have beaten Liverpool is one that springs to mind as there is a certain section of Reds fans who do my head in. I was happy to see 'Arry get them promoted as it meant the return of derby games. And even though I suddenly realised they had a clear run at the FA Cup, I did enjoy their snatch and grab at Old Trafford which we watched before going to see Saints play from the open stand at Blackpool (did it rain?!). Obviously if it is to our advantage I want them to win. Support is too strong a word. To be a supporter you have to hate it when the result goes against you, and I can't say I wept when they lost to Liverpool. And I was naffed off that to win the cup they only had to outplay the mighty Cardiff in the final.
Yup - Pompey win for me too, although I won't go as far as saying I'll be supporting them on the day. West Ham to lose is probably a better way of thinking about it!
Not being from Southampton I don't share the same deep hatred from Pompy as ye do so I'll definitely be looking for them to do us a favour! (for this week only though!)
Agreed. Poyet makes my blood boil. We need the skates to do us a favour until we can get Lee and any other signing on the pitch.
Or, perhaps, Pompey fans cheering on West Bromich Albion instead of Pompey and then invading the pitch in celebration with the home fans when their own team lost.
I'll help - Portsmouth win means West Ham don't go ahead of us West Ham win means West Ham possibly go ahead of us I know which looks better to me!
