Absolutely correct PompeyLapras. St Mary,s for the visit of West Ham (32500) had a wonderful atmosphere. I believe the atmosphere is initially down to the players & their performance. The one proviso I have for stadiums is that the fans are not miles from the pitch. A move to the Olympic Stadium by West Ham would have been a disaster & most of their fans have demostrated against it. Who wants to watch their team with a 35yd gap to the pitch?
We should have just executed the Milan Manadaric plan of turning the stadium 90 degrees, lengthening the Fratton End and building larger stands but even though he owned the land and - as far as I remember - had the planning permission Milan never got past the planning phase then Gaydamak went chasing the dream with Redknapp and so nothing was done. Then plans emerged to turn King George VI Playing Fields into a new stadium, the some of IBM's unused grounds, then plans to move the stadium to the dockyard and finally to the reclaimed land near the motorway. I'll never understand why we didn't just start Mandaric's plans when we had the chance.
Pompey are making ground improvements under the new regime. They've fixed the clock and mended the toilets, so perhaps it's time to stop ragging them about their "stadium". The Blue Few were calling for Dave Jones, Avram Grant or Alan Curbishly and they ended up with a hod carrier and part time bouncer. They must be wetting themselves (in their nice new refurbished urinals)
Quackers, do I detect more than a hint of bitterness in your barbed comments? Mr Appleton is waiting for you.....
lol....ducky's biggest fear is that he much prefers the conversation this end of the M27 and that he will one day become a blue!
What went wrong with the New Wembley then?! I think Appleton is a gamble for you guys, but only time will tell if he was the right choice. But he will need time and expectations must not grow too quickly. Good luck .
I do agree with what your saying Colin about small and intimidating grounds against the big boys, the Dell at times was like having a second goalkeeper BUT time has moved on and so must we. I am also hoping that with most of our players having two seasons in League 1 at small ****holes and more intimidating grounds will stand us in good sted, But who knows in Derby games, it all changes.
He could be singing the words of those other Appletons, Nicole and Natalie from All Saints, in a few months...."Never ever have I ever felt so low, when you gonna take me out of this black hole?"....
I think you are on the right track re plans at Fratton. The cost of building totally new is off the richter scale & in todays economic climate where would the money come from. CSI must be finding things difficult like the rest of the world
I would never have put you down as an All Saints fan, Saints Alive. More likely Wagner (from X Factor) !!
I really do not know what is going on at this website11 ! I have been SAINTSALIVE for a considerable time now & yet I seem to have a double using the same name! Moderator, please sort out
! I have been SAINTSALIVE for a considerable time now & yet I seem to have a double using the same name! Moderator, please sort out. Ok then. You joined, Jun 2011, Saints Alive joined, May 2011. He can be Saints Alive1 and you can be Saintsalive2. Fair do's? We Pompey mods are clever and can easily tell you apart anyway.
Nah, more like Pure Shores. "Can you hear what I hear, it's calling you my dear, out of reeeeeach, take me to the beeeeeach."
saintsalive AND Saints Alive ??? Which is the better of the two ? As Harry Hill would say "There's only one way to find out"...............FIGHT !!!!!
