My verdict is, I'm confused. I keep telling myself that the proof is in the points but truly, is it?

Thing I cant decide on is whether the points we've won since Guidolins arrival are down to him, or the the players (this is supposed to be the best squad we've ever had) or the momentum gained and points won when Curtis was in control? I'm at a complete loss.

One recent thing has me worried though. Guidolin said recently when asked about Montero and other players he wasn't using; this was before the Stoke game. He said something along the lines of this: he has not had the time to assess all of the players and so was concentrating on 13 of them. Anyone else remember this, I've looked for it and can't find anything so I may have gone mad for a minute or two and imagined it.

This may seem a reasonable response but to me, well, it has shaken the confidence I had in him. To me his remarks revealed a few things.

Firstly, that he came here blind and hadn't done any due diligence before his arrival (could mean he simply jumped at the chance of managing in the premiership, not us).

Secondly, he cant have been taking, seeking or listening to the advise from the very qualified staff surrounding him (in particular Curtis).

Thirdly he must be very limited as a manager if it takes him so long to assess his squad (there are images, recordings, biometrics of every player from every training session, of every player in the squad, plus+ reports on injuries, health, conditioning, attitude, fitness, psychological aspects, plus+ recordings of every game each player has ever played for us) with all of this information, all of the staff to call up, how the hell did he not know that he couldn't trust Montero to play? how the hell could he not know everything there is to know about every player at his disposal? All of the information he needed was and is at his fingertips, at worst a simple phone call away.

So, saying he has not had time to expand his knowledge to more than 13 players, which doesn't even make up a matchday squad, has made me look at him again.

I over analyse things sometimes, my job makes me do this, but this was an odd thing for any manager, especially one now seemingly in contention for the Italian job, to say. Hope I am looking too much into it cos I really liked him, now I just don't know.

Good post. But I say keep it simple. Yes, we've got the points but a huge part of that was when Curtis was in charge and we've had some lucky results too. Villa springs to mind. Let's be honest, has he set the Prem alight? No. Has he got us playing boring, defensive football? Yes. Is he proactive or reactive? The latter. Are is starting lineups worrying? Often, yes.

Far too many negatives for me and the points is the only saving grace, and even they can be explained to his detriment. Nah, not convinced and won't be until he's out the door. I hope he proves me wrong tomorrow and grows a pair for a change because we have the players to get something.

I would say that Huw will stick with Franco & Curt, they are a good and successful team, the table doesn't lie, and we are 2nd in the form table, and 12 in the league at the minute with 5 games still to go, and with the magic 40 points now in the bag, we will play with freedom and confidence, so if we finish in the top 10, I definitely see Franco staying, though there is the small matter of the Yanks?................<whistle>
