Interesting comment from Pickfords previous coach yesterday that ‘keepers usually mature at around 27/28, so that means both are moving toward that age. He also described how Pickford was sent out on loan season after season, each season moving up the league levels - simple and sensible. So our two need regular first team football, either for us or out on loan. That would mean bringing in another youngster to fit behind these two. I can’t see us buying another first team goalie - we are desperate in other areas. I say let ‘em fight it out for the position in pre-season - we just need to get behind whoever is picked and let them settle in to the new defensive set-up.
Sensible. Choose a number 1, get someone else in for second choice without spending too much. Send the one we didn't choose for number 1 out on loan to develop. With that said, though... I don't really feel Ingram is going to get any better. Maybe I'm being pessimistic but he's getting on now and hasn't really showed much anywhere he's gone. In light of that, I'd rather have ingram be our second choice keeper and either let Lumley be number 1 with another new youngster to be sent out on loan to develop. Or get a new player in and send Lumley on loan.
I know... but my point is if he was going to be a great keeper he would have shown us a bit more by now.
Can't vote as don't know much about Lumley. Ingram was ok and perhaps the new team will get a better time out of him.
Your Goal keeper is the last line of defence. However he has 10 players ahead of him who should be defending prior to the ball getting to him. If we bash our keeper and knock his confidence then he will not improve. All players picked for the WBA defeat are responsible not just the goal keeper - and if he organises a wall to protect his goal when a free kick is awarded then the outfield players should follow the keepers instruction. We have two young keepers that improve.
