At a decent price (i.e., what we were willing to pay for De Jong) and within our wage structure, yes.

Have we though or is that just what Sky Sports are saying we've done. Who did they speak within the club? Who came to them and said "we've made a bid"? There does not seem to be one shred of evidence that this has actually taken place. The way I see it is Rodgers made a comment about Carroll going on loan, the media immediately started suggesting destinations. A very obvious one to pick on is us given the links. 2 days later SSN say their sources have told them we've made a bid. But neither club appear to have confirmed this and their is no mention on either website. I can see the us trying to unsettle him angle but surely Liverpool would be quick to go public in rejecting a derisory offer as it would be in their best interests?

I could not say with any certainty that it is horseshit but I just find it incredible that everyone is so happy to accept their "sources" word without any knowledge of who it is! At the moment in the absence of any official comment, it would have to regarded as being more likely to be bullshit that fact at present.

Take it all with a pinch of salt untill the club post an official message.

Can't see him coming back with the kind of money that's being mentioned though, just imagine how the other guys in the team would feel if he was to get so much more than them. Wouldn't make for a good changing room atmosphere.

Well, Liverpool are quoted as saying that the bid was well below their requirements, so I think we can take it that it took place.

Might be a serious bid, we might be trying to wind them up, we might be keepign everybody's attention distracted while we wrap up the signing of somebody else entirely. It does, however, look like we made a bid and (oddly for us) we wanted it to be known

Where? I can't find a single comment from either. Certainly no official comment on either website, and no quotes in Sky Sports and BBC stories.

Clubs very rarely go out and officially talk about transfer dealings, especially in such an early stage, to help protect the deal. It wouldn't surprise me if we HAD made a bid, he seems fairly similar to LDJ, being a bit of a giant and a target man, and since we missed out on him we need an alternative.

I don't think we can choose a first two strikers, it should depend on the game. Some games will be more suited to playing Cisse, such as Swansea last season, but then again some games we were crying out for someone as physical and strong as Carroll, namely Man City at home, where the Dembas got absolutely nothing out of the two CB's. If Pards does well, he can rotate the squad plenty, AND have the best possible front line for each game.

Having a third quality striker also lets us change games if they aren't going to plan. If Carroll and Ba aren't cutting it against a certain team, throw Cisse on, and such. It gives us options, which is something we need if we want to progress. Just look at the potential forwards United and City have. Finally, with Carroll, we may actually score from a corner this season.

Getting Borini for £8m and getting their asking price for Carroll would be a good bit of business for Liverpool.

I agree but its amusing that we are all talking like it has taken place when all known evidence in fact suggests its just speculation. lets face it, it wouldn't be the first time that Sky Sports have just completely made something up! Whereas the buying club will rarely comment, the selling club loves nothing better than to comment on it because they are more likely to start a bidding war.

Of course this could be Carrolls management team putting this about to try and eek out an offer because we'd probably be his preferred destination if he is going. There is so many things it could be in the absence of comment from either club or Carroll, that its far too easy to just say "yeah they've defo made a bid"

I agree though, he would add a different dimension to our attack. Whether we can sustain all threes wages is another question altogether though.

I would have him back, however if this was the case i could see baa and cisse both go which would mean we have gone backwards as our style of play has changed, the reason i think this could happen is could u see cisse and mandy up top, pardew likes to play one up top.
potentially he could be used as a plan b or rotate with cisse due to the additional games in euro.
imagine cayabe's dead balls will mandy up top ??
