In the light of this terrible result, Teresa May would be well advised to put Brexit out to grass and cement better relationships with her allies and dare I say it, Russia.
What? We can't abandon our relationship with the States just because of Trump. And we would anger the most powerful nation on the planet if we were to become allies with Russia.

I despair of humanity sometimes, the man is an obvious sexist misogynist and a xenophobic racist. There must be more than 50% of Americans that are either women or non-caucasian, it's like a lot of the non-caucasian voting for Brexit here because they want less immigration...:headbang:

No sadly about it. Trump is a twat but that doesn't change the fact that we can't afford to piss off America. It is vital we maintain close ties with the States.

I think it is important to distance ourselves from the US. We are a European state and Mrs May first duty should be to strengthen our ties with the EU, not untangle ourselves. Does she really want to be seen forging closer ties with that fool Trump?

I think it would be wonderful to become closer to Russia. It is a massive nation in many ways and has a lot to contribute to the world in terms of its culture, art, music, architecture, intellect in abundance. Besides which there are thouands of Russians living in EU countries and we find they are normal people working hard, enjoying life. I cannot understand why Russia is seen as the bad guy in all this. And yes, we can loosen our ties with the States, particularly as it is Trump. I don't want to see my country having anything to do with this vile, repulsive, reptilian man.

Still republican though, and will continue with republican agenda.

Obama and Congress were in a stalemate. Which is why nothing got done for years. Now the GOP will repeal Obamacare, appoint a far right Supreme Court justice and all the other things they've been waiting years to do. So in that respect, the government changes a lot.

But yeah, I don't think a Trump Presidency will look much different than a Ted Cruz Presidency in terms of policy. And Cruz would have won easily. If anything, Trump may be better for liberals because he is such a wildcard.

The direct danger with Trump was always just his sheer incompetence. But in terms of policy, the problem is GOP control of government. And the actual super huge problem for the US and world is the far right, "low information" mood in the country.

So we've got the French and German elections next year. Time to say hello to President Le Pen and Chancellor Petry (just looked this up but she sounds awful).

I do not think the French or Germans are that daft. They may get around 20% of the popular vote but they will not get in. Could be the return of Sarkozy. Merkel will get relected again as there really is nobody else, unless the SDP can find someone who has a wonderful agenda for the country.

29% of latinos voted for Trump. 8% of blacks voted for Trump. Large amounts of white Trump voters voted for Obama 8 or 4 years ago. They're all 'orrible racists though this time round.

Lots of women voted Trump.

As I said on the DE site before it was blocked for comments, he is the lead Trumpet in a big orchestra, the future depends on how the rest play their tunes.

Le Pen will get a lot more than 20% but I think you are right that she won't get in. I don't think she can get the first round win. Then again I thought Brexit and Trump would narrowly lose
