I think you need to be reminded it wasn't the Conservative government that voted to leave the European union. It was the British people of all persuasions You mentioned Gib as voting almost unanimously to remain.That is true as did the scots who are threatening to go alone. Now if you take away those countries votes it might just suggest that even a greater proportion of the English electorate voted to leave. I am not suggesting that should happen just trying to put things in the right perspective. However definitely not the conservatives but all persuasions. The conservative government as the elected party have no choice but to carry out the wishes of the greater majority of people. If Labour were in power they would have had to do the same.................

Just to reply Beddytare, it was the worst thought out referendum ever conducted. What should have been built in to the equation, as it is a constitutional change in the UK status. would to have stipulated a two thirds majority rather than the 50% plus one. However the Conservatives, as the party that took us into what evolved as the EU, (and I think the most visionary of Tory PMs Ted Heath had a vision of what would evolve), should be thoroughly ashamed for allowing their party to become infested with members hostile to the EU that resulted in a sitting PM, Cameron, acceeding to the wishes of his Eurosceptic backbenchers, who in my opinion should have no place in the Conservative Party. A true Conservative Government would seek to remain part of the EU, sit alongside Angela Merkel's Conservatives in shaping the future destination of the EU in the modern world. If it means giving up some sovereignty so be it for the benefit of greater good. Sadly, today's Conservative Party is overwhelming very reactionary in its views and bends to those who sit on the hard right of British politics.
I pretty much agree with the sentiment here. We have become a nation of "now" and there is not much thought to the future. We have had 2 decades of politicians that go for the headlines and backtrack when the headlines aren't positive. Not saying it is Labour or Tory. Both have done this.
We aren't much better as society though. We talk about future but then complain if it impacts on now. We aren't that forward looking anymore. One problem that will mean we are always borrowing for the now whilst complaining we have no money then complaining that the oldies (who did look to the future and didn't spend it all on the now) have all the money.

This caused a certain section of the populace to try and get a hashtag calling for the repeal of the 19th amendment (giving women the right to vote).
What percent of the people tweeting are just doing this to be trolls and trying to burn down the system? What percent of people sincerely believe it? What percent of people don't believe it but will do this simply because they hate Clinton enough? And what percentage of these people will vote?
The thing that isn't in question is that (aside from the people using the hashtag to poke fun of it) 100% of these people are assholes. Everything else is up for grabs. Probably the people who tweet this are unsure themselves. But whichever conservative can manage to unpack what these assholes are thinking will be the next President of the United States.
At any rate, this is probably the death blow for Trump. You cannot win by offending over 50% of US voters. But that is maybe less important than people who tweet this knowing that this dooms whatever slim chance Trump might have had. And they don't care. His core of voters has already moved on.

That's certainly what a right wing British media would have you believe. Another way of looking at it would be that the French felt it was worth subsidising a rural economy in order to preserve small scale farming, regional variety, and the integrity of local produce, rather than handing food production over to large scale agri-businesses, as we have done in the UK.
That wasn't a serious post (I knew I should have used a smiley) but I don't think CAP really protects small farmers so much as it benefits large corporations and large scale land owners. The Guardian (that right wing bastion) reported last month that Sandringham Farms (owned by the Queen) gets half a million quid a year. Firms like Nestle get millions as well. It's also the scale of it, and of course the import tariffs on non-EU produce screw those in the developing world and keep food prices high here. Which isn't to say it should be completely got rid of, more that it needs to change.
Just one point. You don't pay any duty on imports from "Third world/developing" countries, or at least a fair number. I used to import from the Caribbean and didn't have to pay duties.

There are always scare stories about the NHS and lack of funding - but life goes on and so does the NHS.
Not this time. If you read the article I posted it says 2018/2019 will be the hardest years ever for the NHS. It is sadly moving into shutdown and moving into privatisation.

Its a tricky thing though, because the NHS has to try and provide healthcare for a society much larger, longer living and much more demanding than was ever envisioned when it was formed. Much of the answer is down to more money - an extra % or 2 on everybody's income tax might help fill the gap, except a lot of tax payers would object to paying extra as they expect the NHS to just somehow magically produce healthcare without it costing them extra. The NHS was formed to provide ESSENTIAL healthcare, and what is now essential needs to be reevaluated in my eyes as some people expect far too much from the service - I'm not going to start listing treatments that are currently paid for that I think should be handled by the private sector and paid for by the patient because I don't want to start an endless argument about what we are entitled to as citizens however therein lies the problem - sense of entitlement not matching the reality of what a finite amount of cash can provide. I for one don't think that weight loss surgery should be free, or indeed IVF treatment, however both are widely considered to be reasonable demands on the NHS which I just don't understand.
Nah - come 2019 and the NHS will still be going strong. Of course it gets harder as budgets are stretched, and RJ is correct in what he has written above in that many demand far too much of this fine service - but the NHS will always survive. And you will be able to keep the scare stories coming year after year.
