I shall stop posting on this thread for the time being. Too annoyed with what has happened. My sis has just lost her job and she has two little girls to feed.

I think that's the key point Beefy. Though leaning towards leave as I believe long term it will be good for England (as SNP want to leave a union because we wanted to leave a union) I was very aware of the short, even medium, term pain the Brexit will cause. So 'cos I'm an old coward, and wanted my children to keep talking to me I voted Remain. I hope you and yours come out ok in the end. Don't blame voters, blame that incompetant idiot for calling a referendum to get re-elected.
I would like the Politics thread to carry on, some of the only real bits of info I've sourced in the referendum leadup have been via tips from here. Also it takes the piss out of ALL politicians so win/win for me.
I would just say that now we have the Politics Thread, there will be many other occasions when it will come in handy (Tory leadership contest, US elections etc.) so I see no reason to close it. Just to remind you all of the rules, no personal insults, and no politics on any other thread. If you don't want to see what others have posted, don't open the thread. Imps, please don't leave us, we value your contributions mate. Just avoid this thread if you don't like it.

It will be interesting to understand the basis of the proposed fiscal policy now that north sea oil prices have reduced, how would you feel about the euro as well?
It is hard to overstate how bad UEFA sucks as an organization. OTOH, how insanely great are the European Championships? Then you just multiply that times 10 for FIFA and World Cup.
I think that pretty much covers the EU and the UN and the pluses and minuses of membership. And every other bilateral, multi-lateral, regional, international, trade, or military agreement.

It's not a free market Fran, our agreement includes a trade fee that is wrapped up in the overall cost of being in the club. Agreed on paying our duty every week it allows us to trade with our partners without fetter. But its not a free market as such.I better pack quick then, because the free market may not quite be so free for me to take up that opportunity

Also we monitor it frequently.
It is true that some do get carried away and are a little over zealous at times in their responses. In the main though most respect and accept other people have alternative views and again on most occasions agree to disagree.
We also have a few that are very pedantic that tend to think they are always right. Which will not except they are wrong and in all honesty these people will rarely see the others point of view. Arguing with these people is futile so it is best not to get involved.
It takes all sorts to make a good forum and it can be educational.
If someone steps out of line you can rest assured that although you might not see action of any type being made public it does not necessarily mean that a discussion has not taken place. Which is usually all that is required.
In the main the people that post on here,which is usually saints fans, can be proud of their debating ability and their acceptance of others views. Those that do not like the way we saints supporters prefer to do things do not usually last very long.
So come on guys and gals let us move on from this emotive referendum, pull together and get this country on the up once more.

The oil price has always fluctuated - it was down to around $30 a few months ago. It`s back up to around $50 now, and forecasts have it up to $75 next year. Oil revenue would only make up a small %age of Scotlands total anyway. Not sure tbh about the Euro. The Scottish government wouldn`t necessarily have to use the Euro - we could stick with the pound.

AL - I am addicted to politics and I always vote at every election. I might have gone to bed until Newcastle and Sunderland came in and I suspected something huge was about to happen.
I will try and hold my emotions. It has been a long hard 2 days and after the elation, adrenalin and tears reading the happy posts on my facebook page and messages came an onslaught I have never seen the like of before which maybe sent me a little over the edge.
If anyone sees my long post in this thread being bandied about I haven't copied it from someone else. That is the post I put on facebook earlier today edited a little to suit this forum. So far it hasn't received the mass backlash but I suppose it will. I can hear ba-ding ba-ding so I'll have a look in a mo.
If I do feel angered I'll take myself away and consider things before replying (or not replying) from now.
I know things are going to tank now. I knew they would before I voted. I did not vote for English country gardens and the empire. I voted for equality for the forgotten and often ridiculed people of this country of which I am one.
I'll behave myself from now on. We're all very emotional at the moment and the adrenalin is still at peak for many.
There is something very interesting about this.... You would expect the young to be more anti establishment, prepared to encompass change. What we have is the opposite. It is those of advancing years who have thrown the dice gambling with the young's future.
Any stats on the percentage of how many voted in each age group? Did more people in the 65+ age group vote compared to those in the 18-24 group?
