Thats not true at all. There was non stop attack on Johnson from the minute he got foreign secretary. Lampooning his appointments and elevation all the way and when PM everything was attacked from all sides. His own side were constantly sniping and leaking against him as well. Its very similar to Starmer now. Most of the damaging stuff coming from his own side. This is just ore cliche.

It was the media that created the partygate furore from internal leaks. Labour and the others got on to it after the media had already printed / gone to air.
Complete nonsense.

You may think so but it is true. The media were all over Johnson and it was a never ending line of sniping from all of politics. Very very similar to now. Even before he got the gigs. Portillo on this week was voicing his anti Boris beliefs. Programmes like HIGNFY every single week from mayor to entering parliament and onward were at him. Newspapers always calling him out for anything and when they got a sniff of him standing in a doorway for someone's birthday (next to Sunak) for 10 minutes it was a bloodbath! And yet they still talked Sunak up!

IT was the Chris Pincher defence/denial that started the end and once they managed to get the partygate thing across all media they got their man.

Starmer's chief of staff McSweeney has resigned. If he thinks that will get him off the hook he's more deluded than I thought.
I think it'll save him until May.

Unsure what will happen after Labour get utterly planted in Wales, Scotland and our locals though.

That being said it is harder to unseat a Lab leader than it is a Con leader, so people shouldn't expect it will go quite the way it did with Johnson and Truss. On balance I don't think he will be here by the next GE but he could last a lot longer than people expect, unless he chooses to resign. They would need to get behind an alternative PM/leader and then run them against Starmer in a full leadership election.

Will be very curious to see how things change with no McSweeney, because he was utterly useless and living off of a majority by default.

If Labour go into the next GE with Starmer in charge they will deservedly get buried for another generation. The problem for all of us is that Reform will **** the country up far worse even than the incompetent Tories have done since 2010.

The media fawned over Johnson. Let's not forget the attention he was afforded when it was unsure whether he favoured or was against Brexit in 2016. Very much the media darling. The award of the 2012 Olympics probably started the infatuation with Boris.

I agree that some Labour MPs had warned that Johnson would be a disaster as PM and that the likes of Nicola Sturgeon held him in contempt. They were proved correct. He was the worst PM we have ever had until Liz Truss. Johnson demeaned the office and was a key influence ensuring that Brexit was achieved. There has not been one benefit of Brexit which has been one of the biggest political disasters since 1945.

Johnson was lucky to come out of the Covid enquiry unscathed. His government utterly failed during the pandemic. The failings in his leadership effectively made him lose credibility and revealed him ineffectual as a leader. Sturgeon showed far more statesmanship and she constantly humiliated him to the point that he appeared inept.

I cannot see how anyone , even Conservatives , can support someone who was so immoral. It is staggering that Johnson has not subsequently been barred from public office due to his management of Covid and failure to prepare beforehand when the warnings were first raised.

I think the media failed to hold Johnson to account. Between him and Farage , it is difficult to gauge who has been the biggest disaster. If Farage got elected , I think Reform government would not last 6 months Boris is a warning of what happens if you elect a fool.

I think the left in this country see what they want to see. Yes I accept that is 2 way but you all seem to confuse media interest for fawning and you all seem not to notice the constant attacks on him. I'm not defending the guy. Just saying that all of the above is obviously viewed through a biased lens..........other than how bad he was which is quite true.

And I think Starmer will be gone at the latest after the Gorton and Denton by election. If Labour finish 3rd in one of their safe seats he will be shown the door and possibly a caretaker put in position like Ed Milliband or someone else relatively high up. Not sure McFadden will be allowed seeing as he will be the last man standing of the powerplayers of New Labour.

Its very hard in politics to let things ride through a few months until May when it is obvious the PM is a lame duck.

The current obsession of the Press and Media is symptomatic of a modern human failing, in what I call "Person To Blame Syndrome", where a person that makes a mistake is castigated and punished as a detterent to others. The emphasis should be on investigating and rectifying the circumstances that created the situation that led to the error in the first place.

Interesting that the person actually to blame for a lot of the economic problems the country has faced since Brexit is the man who is being promoted to be the next PM.

The subtle difference being that the person deemed "responsible" hasn't as yet, been blamed, castigated or punished.

"Fancy a pint of expensive but watery beer? Just go to a pub near you – if there’s one still open – as new taxes and prices come into operation.
Alcohol duty rose by 3.66 percent at the start of this month, in line with inflation. The government says this will add around 2p to the price of a pint, but it’s certain to be more by the time it reaches the bar.
The giant global brewers that dominate Britain’s beer industry have responded to the increase by reducing the strength of their brews. This, the brewers claim, will be good for people’s health. Heineken says: “We are supporting consumers choosing a more balanced lifestyle.” And Carlsberg states: “We are supporting public health.”
But they will also reap a rich reward by slashing their tax bills.

Scottish Labour leader expected to call for Starmer's resignation. Surely it's only a matter of time before at least one cabinet member resigns if he doesn't go.
