Professor Richard Murphy is asking the question about if/when Trump will invoke the Insurrection Act in order to shut down people such as the Governor of California and a Supreme Court judge who are starting action against what is happening in the USA.

This all boils down to who runs the country....the executive or the judges. I can understand Trump taking the view that puts him in contempt of court as unelected judges should not be setting policy and especially if it is cintrary to what Trump was elected for. However I am concerned because the Trump is using his powers to do some bad stuff. Not sure if judges should be ruling on whether tarriffs should apply but they should when people are deported without due process.

I fear that there will actually be worse to come.

Courts don’t set policy. They check the actions of people and government against the law and decide if those actions break the law. That is their one job.

As I understand it tariffs can’t be set without going through congress. Trump putting them in place by the use of abusing his executive powers is the issue.

Trump will ride roughshod over the judiciary. Don't be surprised if unfavourable jusges are removed. We are in uncertain times

But the tanks are real!

Yep, that is why I haven't gone to London for a while - it is like a war zone. So many people with brown faces there as well...they must be illegal and claiming benefits. The problem is they get these benefits, then steal your phones, then look at your children.

This is what I am worried about in current times. Trump and co normalise bad behaviour.

Thankfully we only seem to have one poster on here that is down the rabbit hole and gone batshit crazy, but I do worry for the next generation.

Unfortunately, quite a lot of people have emotional natures and are easily led. We’re in an era of high anxiety and peak stupid, and we need to wake up to the uncomfortable reality that there is a coordinated international effort to manipulate the vulnerable masses

As shown time and time again on here where some people think they are the clever one as they 'know' and the rest don't. Social media makes vulnerable and easily playable people believe they are on to something and the rest of the people are stupid.

Maybe it is a sort of empowerment for the often suppressed and unheard. Usually uses easily identifiable scapegoats to stir up feelings.

That's textbook totalitarianism; create an enemy within and whip the people into a frenzy. But what's new this time, is social and digital media targetting specific groups. Twitter is overrun with accounts specifically created to spread fear and loathing, and that's no accident. Sinister interests are behind it, not just Musk, who may be a useful idiot, but others who stand to gain from weakening the world's democracies.

Does that sound a bit paranoid? I hope it is, tbh.

The thing is that it takes a level of shall we say competence, awareness or even intelligence to see this. It is not about being left, right or centre.

It’s not just social media though.
Farage and Tice get far too much airtime on mainstream platforms for a political party with just 5 MPs.
Hell, Farage has received far too much attention even when he wasn’t an MP.
It’s almost as if the mainstream media is largely right leaning. Mmmmmmm.:emoticon-0126-nerd:

I expect this reporter sleeps with one eye open waiting for Trump’s merry band of corrupt law enforcers to come for her, for speaking out so openly and by producing evidence of corruption.
