Don't want to jinx it, but we have been lucky. Our neighbour not so much as he had a fox and her cubs under theirs!

It has been there now about 11 years. The base it is on is wood, but the decking non wood. No one can tell and it still looks like new 11 years later.

Yep we ended up with Rats nesting under the decking. Obviously we had 2 options.

1) Call in a professional pest controller, pay the man his damn money and just move on.
2) Claim that the man quoted a ridiculous price for what is a "piece of piss job." Spend a ridiculous amount of money on an air rifle and scope. Realise that rats are primarily nocturnal and you don't have a hope in the dark. Spend even more money buying a night scope and pretending you're Mark Wahlberg in shooter. The rats continue to have a long and fruitful life, mocking any attempts at their genocide. Until Mrs Lincoln fed up with my shooting spot taking up 40% of the front room, secretly called rento-kill in while I was at work.

Guess which option we did?

"It’s time to end this rotten system of patronage and replace the unelected Lords with a smaller elected chamber, where the people of this country - not former prime ministers - choose who shape the laws we all live under."

"For far too many of its members, the second chamber of our parliament is a cosy club for the privileged few.
But this is not just another private members’ club – it is one which has real powers over the law of the land."

"We’re basically alone in Europe for having a fully-unelected revising chamber. And no other country in the democratic world has a second chamber bigger than ours. Globally, only Communist China has a bigger body, and they merely meet to rubber stamp government policies. France manages on 348 members. Spain with 265. India, with over a billion people, and Japan have just 245 members each."

"It’s time to abolish the bloated House of Lords and create a new chamber to revise our legislation – one where the public picks the members, and can hold them accountable."

Yeah, and I feel I should be fully onboard with this, but our revising body is full of genuine experts. Former judges, retired MPs, etc.. If we make it elected it will just be another house full of career politicians…

Reactions: LincolnSaint
Sloppy journalism and therefore outright lies get everywhere these days

Just read a piece in the Times by Rod Liddle, saying that West Yorks police have temporarily paused job applications from white people. Telegraph ran the story too

Had a Google and found a statement from WYorks saying reports of this in the press are untrue. The only positive discrimination they practice is allowing under-represented groups to apply at any time, and they then keep the applications on file until the next recruitment process starts. They are then considered in the same way as all other applications

Living near a farm we get the occasional visitor attracted in by spilt bird food. I've seen them jump from a bush onto the bird table and even up the wall onto the window sill. Something had to be done, even without bird food around they get into the shed and destroy anything chewable. I took the Mark Wahlberg route as poison is a bit risky with pets around and, where rats are concerned, I get a sadistic pleasure from being a one man firing squad. "Any last requests Ratty?"....Bang. In the telescopic sight they look the size of an elephant, there's no escape. They can be tempted out during the day with a strategically placed titbit. I can do all this from the kitchen window so no problem from my wife who hates them as much as I do anyway. Actually, coming from Glasgow she misses seeing blood splattered around and tells me after each execution it makes her feel quite homesick.

"People who live in cities don't understand the ways of the countryside" is always a good line to justify the enjoyment of killing animals I find.

Lots of animals were harmed in the making of this story.

Happens all to often and ends up as shrill hysterics on social media disgraces followed by C&P to this thread with a foaming outraged comment.

To be fair I got about 5 all in all. But cost to rat ratio didn't impress Mrs Lincs. Its a lovely rifle though <laugh>

C&P! I had to think about that for a while

As biased as they might be, I’d expect a little better from the Times & Telegraph

Also GB News, but I’d expect that
There is a concerted campaign to sow division in the UK, targeting our Muslim population. I think the whole country should be ashamed they don’t do the basic research you did to check this. I find practically every assertion of malign Muslim influence and two tier policing is usually very easy to disprove.

I hate to say this, but I find white people moaning about unfair treatment one of the most laughably pathetic things I ever saw. And why is it always punishment WHILE ABUSING MINORITIES that they get so upset about?

I have every sympathy with anyone poor, of any colour, but people need to fight wealth inequality and stop crying that poor widdle white people are mistreated.

However, not excusing it, but there are mitigating circumstances for white people, who are struggling financially and feeling excluded, looking for a scape-goat
The thing is this is weaponised by self-interested parties

Well that’s exactly it. The weaponisation of those who feel disenfranchised by 15 years of austerity and a housing market designed to enrich those with wealth and keep the poor downtrodden. It has nothing to do with colour, but pointing poor white at poor brown works very well in ensuring nothing changes.
