So far as I know British citizens have never been able to travel to member states of the EU without a passport, even when the UK was a member. Now you still don’t need a visa, but you do still need a passport, and from sometime next year or the year after you'll also need ETIAS preclearance online. Now you can’t work, at all, without a work permit from the member state we’re in, nor can you stay for longer than 90 days in any 180. Happy to have permanent residence and enjoy seamless travel throughout Europe and parts of Scandinavia.
