It's utterly appropriate. What better day to protest to try and stop a war?Although holding an anti-war March on a day that mourns the loss of life from previous wars doesn’t seem so inappropriate really

Yes, I'd go along with that. Braverman and Sunak have a lot to answer for by using the march to further their political ambitions.Although holding an anti-war March on a day that mourns the loss of life from previous wars doesn’t seem so inappropriate really
Given this is the Saints forum, we are clearly all nincompoopsWe are an inclusive society everyone is silly sometimes, some are sillier than others particularly those that award themselves intellectual superiority.
Indeed. Rather than just busily getting on with the killing of more people on the day you say “Never again”!It's utterly appropriate. What better day to protest to try and stop a war?

Yeap time to go silly on Saturday. Starting well Leffe blonde is on offer -25% there could be some heavy duty snoring on my sofa this evening.Someone a few pages said something that resonated with me. I always say I am ever so slightly right of centre...slipping off the fence so to speak, rather than on one side of it. However, I have strong 'left' wing rules on some things and pretty strong 'right' wing rules on others.
With regard to today, let me start by saying I am a total pacifist. IMO wars solve nothing, just sit down and talk about it. Idealist I know, but FFS why do you have to be aggressive and kill to get your own way or put your point across.
That said, IMO it is so important to remember those that have fallen to give us the freedom we have today. Without the ultimate sacrifice we wouldn't be sitting here now in our kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms or whatever typing away on our keyboards about stuff like this without fear of reprisal. IMO Remembrance Day will never be outdated or not relevant as we have to learn from the past to make a better future (idealism again). Unfortunately, we don't.
And soapbox put down for the day, it's MATCHDAY!!!!!
What kind of things do you have strong ‘right wing’ rules on? As has been said before these terms are sometimes difficult to defineSomeone a few pages said something that resonated with me. Very mixed. My immigration stance is probably quite right wing, though not as much as the Tories. Lol my Dad has said I am the wrong complexion to hold these values. My view of the economy and taxation is definitely right of centre, though welfare I am definitely on the left. No one should be on the streets in 2023 (it ISNT a lifestyle choice) and those that can afford it should help pay for those that can’t. That said, it isn’t a crime to earn good money if you work hard and you should be able to keep it - I don’t agree with the ‘tax the wealthy they can afford it’ stance at all. What kind of things do you have strong ‘right wing’ rules on? I am a firm believer in freedom of speech, so wouldn’t want it to be banned outright.
I do think it’s a disgrace that anyone wants to protest and be on the streets on such a day though. It is an appalling lack of respect for the country these people have chosen to move to.
However it seems a large and ever growing population that reside here hate Britain and all it stands for. Sad.
If peace was the intent of the organisers then I’d be with you. Incidentally, one of the organisers is a former Hamas leader and lives in a help to buy property in London, on the borders of one of the biggest Jewish communities in the country.

Wanting a temporary ceasefire is not necessarily the same as wanting peace. If it was, they’d be marching for the release of hostages surely?
The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph is held on Sunday. There’s no March in London on that day.
Today is Armistice Day, the anniversary of the day in 1918 when the guns fell silent and the killing stopped. What could be more appropriate than calling for an armistice, on armistice day?
I find it something of a concern that a large and ever growing section of the public misconstrue the purpose of remembrance as a glorification of war, rather than an opportunity for the sober contemplation of it’s horrors.
Agree that the hostages seem an element of this latest conflict which is overlooked in the calls for peace.
Whilst Hamas continue to hold these hostages it gives Israel an excuse to continue the bombardment of Gaza.
I'm concerned for my daughter, she's marching and as above there are alt right, hooligan groups and also Hamas supporting militants seeking to disrupt the peaceful intent of the organisers. The Hope Not Hate Group has reported plenty of concerns to the police, about racism and the threat of violence from the people Braverman is reaching out to.
If there is violence, perhaps she can be charged with incitement.
Agent provocateurs could, imo, be an issue and a deliberate attempt to ruin a peaceful protest by infiltration has to be a possibility.
As long as the protest march sticks to it’s agreed route, I have no issue with the protest despite it being on the day that commemorates the lives lost to give the world FREEDOM.
That freedom includes the right to protest, something that the Tories would take away from all of us, if they could get away with it.
“VILE messages posted on football hooligan chat groups show yobs plan to attack demonstrators in London calling for a Gaza ceasefire.
The HOPE Not Hate campaign group yesterday reported dozens of racist posts and threats from right-wing Whatsapp groups to the police.
They include discussions on how to ambush protesters, posts calling Muslims “vermin” and “scum”, and links on where to buy crossbows.
HNH said some of the groups have doubled in numbers in the past seven days. The groups are awash with vile Islamophobia, including a photo of Hitler saying he should have “chosen Muslims” to exterminate.
One member wrote: “It’s time to show these ****s what our country is about. They think they can come over here and run amok on our beloved country? Let’s get amongst these ****s and show who’s in charge.”
When a member posted a link to a page selling crossbows, another said: “Let’s shoot the f***ing lot of them… it’s war. For our children and country.”
HNH chief Nick Lowles said: “These messages show there’s a real threat of violence coming from sections of the far right and football hooligans.”
