I was actually listening to that live, and the video is a fair reflection of what was said. Lammy didn’t exactly cover himself with glory , but on the other hand it has to be said that there were a fair number of callers who were in favour of ULEZ, and if the expansion. It should be remembered that about 90% of residents’ cars are exempt from the charges.

You are correct though, that it is Tory government policy and was originally introduced by Johnson as London Mayor, so to traduce it as a Labour initiative is laughable.
Tories are intent on Evil-signalling

Thanks for the clarification Chilcs, no virtual signalling then.

Basically sums it up. Labour are completely unelectable and an absolute waste of space.

Even with the Tories being a shambles, the Labour Party care more about virtue signalling than helping the working class.

Country is ****ed

This is nonsense, frankly. What £200 a month? Do what I did, sell the old motor on eBay, and buy a Toyota, with a small engine. Pay zero Road tax, everybody wins.

Classic champagne socialists are rampant on this forum. Pretend to care about the country whilst simultaneously masturbating over policies specifically designed to **** over the working class.

The growth in the price of the house exceeds the rate of general inflation in the same period by a factor of 7. That isn't caused by goldbuggery or lack thereof, it's caused by there being too few houses and too many people moving into the province from Ontario and British Columbia.

No, but I can do basic math. It's kinda a neat superpower.

Its a combination of factors; but expansion of the monetary supply is the main driver.

The reason I ask is because you show the same total lack of understanding of economics as Trudeau. As he famously said “who cares, the numbers will balance themselves”.

The guy is an evil cretin that is driving Canada off a cliff in the name of globalism. Sad to see

This makes absolutely no sense. The debasement of our currency led to a massive spike in the price of houses in just the province of Nova Scotia, while having no tangible impact on inflation overall, or on the price of housing in several other provinces? Please, explain in detail how you think this works.

I understand that house prices in B.C. and Alberta (possibly other provinces) have also significantly increased. Don't ask me to explain why because I haven't a clue .....just been told that is the case.

Those wanting the end of FPTP elections may find this interesting. "Of the 43 countries most often considered to be within Europe, 40 use some form of proportional representation to elect their MPs." The UK is in the position of being able to look at the various systems used and cherry pick the best, just ****ing do it!

PR myths debunked here, there's 23 pages of it but it does cover most misgivings some have.

Sensationalism as ever. Most people in this country can absolutely afford a modern car. Large chunks of the areas shortly to be included within the ULEZ zone are some of the wealthiest in the country.

If it is going to cost you £2,400 per year extra then it is literally going to cost you money not to upgrade. Let alone the fact the newer car will likely have a lower tax, potentially none at all, and also save you significant sums on petrol which combined could easily equal another £750. If you bought a car on tick today, you'd save money over the lifetime of the car and have similar monthly car expenses over a 5-year period.

I got a reprimand for being sensible.

Yeah, prices in BC and Ontario skyrocketed first, because their populations boomed and you also had the wealthy buying up a lot of property as investments, decreasing supply. The knock-on effect is that people who owned houses in BC/Ontario could afford far more elsewhere in the country if they so desired (even with the explosion in prices here, houses are still cheap compared to suburban Toronto or Vancouver), and that in turn resulted in a large amount of retirees and people who are able to work remotely selling their homes and moving to Nova Scotia, which in turn has placed a great deal of strain on our housing market.

Additionally, large corporate landlords that had previously ignored anything outside of Halifax (because it wasn't profitable enough) have been buying up buildings and massively increasing rents...they've tripled in many places in the past 15 years. None of which has anything to do with 'currency debasement' or whatever, it's just a combination of supply/demand imbalance and naked corporate greed.

‘Champagne socialist,’ ‘limousine liberal’, or my personal favourite ‘bourgeois bohemian’ are equivalent accusations aimed at people who advocate socialist thought, while enjoying personal wealth. It is an appeal to a supposed hypocrisy; you cannot be an agent of social justice, as long as you harbour the spoils of such inequality.

People deploy the phrase ‘Champagne socialist’ a lot online. They smirk at their computer screens, shrewdly slipping around comment boards imploding egalitarian arguments with a single phrase. Admirable; how they succinctly rebuke entire arguments without even having to engage with a solitary point! It is an intellectual miracle, no doubt.

Wokeness has also become an accusation by those decrying anything other than free market economy greed is good values. Widely accepted as a failed model.

I will engage with the point then.

ULEZ is a total scam, which harms the least well off in society.

It does absolutely nothing to help the imaginary “climate crisis”. It is about taxing the working class.

The above post that people should essentially suck it up is ****ing absurd. Anyone that has worked on the tools in London knows how difficult it is to work there now. With the parking tickets, speeding & traffic cameras fining you every two minutes. Now to add even more pointless charges on top. It’s absolutely ridiculous. And it helps absolutely no one.

What measurable data can anyone bring out to show that a ULEZ (or even the congestion charge) for that matter has increased air quality?

You can’t. Because it ****ing hasn’t. It’s just another moronic policy aimed at stealing wealth from the citizens. Meanwhile taxes on private jet fuel has been lowered.

The “elites” that make these rules don’t give a **** about the climate. They just need to steal as much as possible from the population to cover for their horrendous decision making.

Those that defend this policies have been lied to. They think that they are “helping the planet” and saving the world. But they are merely making the government richer at their own expense.

Not true in the slightest. Just because you don’t understand how the word woke has been twisted and bastardised into something harmful for society, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

Oh you will hate me for this!
https://www.london.gov.uk/new-repor...mpact-expanded-ultra-low-emission-zone-so-far

The data is measured and the improvements are significant.

I interviewed one of Southampton’s leading scientists for air quality two weeks ago and he has data showing the roads being closed in St Denys has improved air quality. St Denys! That is a couple of logs blocking a road. You should read up on this topic, Os! You love to know the most and the science here is incredible!

People think cars create most pollution out of their exhausts but data now suggests more and more comes from other areas - like brake pads. We need to understand more about this stuff. What we do know is that a child in London died of pollution a few years back. That was the agreed cause of death at tribunal. Pollution.

I didn't best express my meaning. Of course I understand how woke has been distorted by the government right as in woke lefty lawyers. The little Ingerlanders reading the express and mail lap it up.
