I've been following American politics closely ever since the 2020 election and there is some crazy **** going on over there a lot like Italy, Spain and Germany in the 1930s. Their democracy could be hanging by a thread especially if the Democrats lose the midterm election and the World needs a strong and stable USA in these worrying times.

Funny you shall mention Germany in the 1930s, as I mentioned the same to my son in law and he was in denial and said that I was a communist as I wanted the democrats to continue etc. I pointed out that as long as Trump was hanging around, even though I probably don't agree with half the things Biden says or does, if I was over there I would vote for him purely as he is not Trump. Trump and the republican party are in a dangerous scary place right now. I may be slightly right leaning generally, but even over here we are just a year or so behind that same scary place.

History is just that, history, but if we don't take the warnings and learn from it then we are in a bad place. The world is ripe now again unfortunately for uprisings like the 1930s and I genuinely believe (And not because the 'media' has brainwashed me) that Trump could be as bad in a second term as 1933 onwards in Germany. This sounds alarmist, but as someone who studied that particular period of history (Rise and fall of the third Reich and British & European history 1870-1945 as my specialities) in great depth (albeit a fair few years ago now lol), we need to take the warnings now.

Yes exactly and then come the election, they can moan how bad it got under him and how nothing got done and how much better it will be with Trump. And guess what, people will believe it. Trump will then get in (or if he doesn't bleat on about fraud etc to devalue and put doubt in the minds of some) and then we will start seeing laws changed that will maybe even give him a 3rd term or make him invincible. Again, sounds alarmist, but it really could happen and in the last election 74 million people believed his crap, so 74 million will be behind changes. Scary thought.

I don’t think those issues are what is going to swing this. It will be inflation, gas prices, the economy

Maybe there will be some people who switch and list those as their reasons but I expect not a large proportion.

Google it. Democrat run cities are pushing some wacky curricula. Lots of parents have been up in arms about, especially parents who would have otherwise voted Democrat, its becoming quite a big issue in a few states, especially Virginia, where, although the governor is Republican, the dems hold a majority of senate seats.

“Party of KKK” thing is displaying a lack of understanding of history (and nuance). Whilst it is technically true that southern democrats were the main people who made up the kkk that is absolutely not true anymore. Look up the 1972 election and the southern strategy. After the civil rights laws were enacted a majority of the southern democrats just switched to Republican and never went back. Probably the largest baked in political shift ever. Just look at election maps and the colours of those states. It just swaps from blue to red and pretty much never changes back

It’s not too much different from the people who try to claim the Nazis were left wing / socialist because they were called the “National Socialist” party. It’s taking things far too much at face value based on what they chose to be called.

As for claiming that they are debased - that is just angry rhetoric. All of them? Likely not.

Destruction of black America - that is a complex topic that I’m sure could be debated

But several of the things you mentioned don’t really equate with left wing. Especially not in two party U.K. where the choice is pretty much Tories and Labour. You don’t have to be left wing to not want the Tories in power. Loving drugs is a libertarian position as well as a left wing one. And weirdly (in America) there is large overlap between libertarians and republicans

Likewise Reagan was a ****ing asshole, with his War on Drugs bullshit and the penalties he put on crack cocaine ("The black mans drug") compared to powdered coke ("The rich mans drug") and outsourcing prison labour to effectively re create the slave trade, in a manner.
Neither party are what I would call morally pure.

Exactly. The fake virtue signalling is what makes me truly sick. They pretend to care and be a friend to the working class whilst simultaneously introducing policy after policy which make the wealth gap larger and everyone’s lives worse.

I think republicans and trump are bad, but Biden and the Dems are worse.

I know you didn't want me in particular to respond, but I will as I am to the right of most on here, even though I am pretty central really (AKA sit on the fence lol)

I don't think it is evil, but in an ideological world, true capitalism it isn't 'for the people'. I also think and have said that to me a hybrid model of capitalism is ideal - a mixture of the free market and government intervention/control. I was trying to find a term for the opposite of capitalism and there isn't an english word for it - I suppose anti-capitalism could be used. Socialism or communism are alternatives to capitalism, but not the opposite (I know you know that!).

True 100% capitalism isn't fair, but a hybrid model would be IMO. In true anti-capitalism, the employee is supreme, in true capitalism the employer is supreme. Neither IMO work in their extreme, but work as a mixture.

What I do dislike about some comments on here is that it seems to be a crime to earn decent money or to be 'rich'. Some of the things posted about some people and what they do with their wealth is like "How dare they have that much money, when there is a cost of living crisis". Some people have a lot of money through birth, luck, circumstance which is unfortunate - but some actually got it through hard work too. It is not a crime to be wealthy.

I will probably get slated for the above, but those are my views. If I won £100 million on the lottery I would wear expensive clothes and have expensive things and yes, have '1st world problems'. But it would be the way it is. What is the alternative - give it all away to others and live a basic life? Maybe that is the 'right' thing to do, but personally I wouldn't and I would question how many truly would.

As I said I await the slating for these views, but these are my personal opinions and I am not trying to push them on anyone - I know we are all different. There is no right way or wrong way (re capitalism). If someone says there is, then IMO they are wrong as that is just their opinion. We all think differently (thank god [does god exist?], so on this subject to me there are just ideologies and opinions.
