Immigration is essential to the UK, perhaps my biggest disappointment in moving away from the EU is that we do not have a sensible policy on this. I voted to leave and would vote to leave again. the EU is brassed off because they are aware of our strategic threat in terms of worldwide profile. it is frustrating to watch this inept government fumble the ball on this.
Perhaps you could list the benefits of Brexit that would make you vote for the same thing?

The duty free allowance is just about the only thing that could be called a benefit but the drawbacks greatly outway that. Import restrictions, meat, dairy etc mean no food parcels. Below are the allowances from the Stena line Harwich-Hook of Holland route we hope to be using when it's viable.

There's also the massive loss of freedom of movement and right to work in the EU. The triumphant list goes on.

PASSENGER ALLOWANCE INTO

ENGLAND
per adult
Alcohol
18 liter non sparkling wine, and
42 liter beer, and
4 liter spirits, or
9 liter sparkling wine, or
9 liter fortified wine like sherry and port, or
9 liter of any alcoholic beverage less than 22%

Tobacco
200 cigarettes, or
250 gram rolling tobacco

HOLLAND
per adult
Alcohol
1 liter spirits, or
2 liter sparkling wine, or
2 liter fortified wine like sherry or port, and
4 liter non sparkling wine, and
16 liter beer

Tobacco
200 cigarettes, or
250 gram rolling tobacco

All quantities are per adult

Not a benefit to a non drinker and a non smoker.
Back in the day, when Mrs B smoked, we would regularly bring 2000+ cigarettes back from a holiday in Spain.
That was a genuine financial benefit (but not a health benefit) as the duty on cigarettes in Spain is far lower than here.

Was that BB (Before Brexit)? I used to do similar from Holland with tax payed goods.

Yes. Did it for years without any issues at the borders.
The pain for us is the ban on meat, dairy products and other foodstuffs in both directions. Visiting family late last year would have brought a trolley load for us and taken back some goodies from here.

Scientists recently did a study on the effects the right side and left side of a brain had on counting.

They first took out the left half of a man's brain and asked him to count to 10.

He says, "2, 4, 6, 8, 10".

They put the left half back in and removed the right half, asking him to count to 10 again.

He says "1, 3, 5, 7, 9".

Finally they decided to just go for it and removed the whole brain. They again asked him to count to 10 one more time.

He says, "Look. I'm great at counting to 10, ok? I love numbers and I have the best numbers. No one has better numbers than I do. My 4th grade math teacher - and let me tell you, she was the best and smartest math teacher in the country at the time - my 4th grade math teacher said to me that I am the best counter she's ever seen. The best. So if you want me to count to 10, let me tell you I can count to 10 alright. That's no problem. I will do it. I will. And I will do it better than any has ever done it before, ok?"

Person, woman, man, camera, TV?

Just finished watching Four Lives on BBC1.
Completely shows the Metropolitan Police to have been totally incompetent and uncaring in their “investigation” into the deaths of four gay teens.
If you haven’t watched it, do so, because it is very emotive.

I have put it on this thread simply because I think policing is a political issue.

There is a massive issue with the Met and their “management”
I understand that the police are under huge pressure due to the loss of so many officers, but the message from top is to support whatever this corrupt government say or do. Never mind the crimes against the public, “we’ll get round to it when we can” …… :emoticon-0121-angry

I don`t understand how `Dame` Cressida Dick got a new contract recently. Every time there is another fiasco on her watch, she appears in front of the camera and blurts out the same `....I have ordered a thorough investigation blah blah`. Totally ineffective and uninspiring to the the public, and to the Met. And don`t get me started on how she gets rewarded by being made a `Dame`. What a farce.
