A very sad indictment on the state of this country and how so many people were taken in by the media who told them to vote for the disaster that is Brexit, put the fear of god in them about Corbyn and his lefty policies which would be awful (not necessarily for them but for the tax dodging bastards now running the country) and that the future would be golden.
The saying “chickens coming home to roost” and “turkeys voting for Christmas” come into mind .....

I wonder where this country is going over the next few years and whether I should seriously look at relocating to another place (difficult without FOM I know)

Kind of made my mind up to go at some point. Within 10 years.

If either of you guys find a way of moving to Spain, without being tied down by the forthcoming loss of FOM, please let me know.
This was always the dream for my wife and myself, but it will not be possible now.

Portugal. North of the holiday centres. I've been looking at properties, and if I went tomorrow I could buy a property costing half as much as mine is worth and it would be double the size. Living on the edge of town or in a quiet village.

Some friends of mine moved to rural Portugal a few years ago, and carried on their online marketing business without a hitch due to the cheap full-fibre broadband the whole country enjoys.

Depends on many factors Dave ability to earn a living, your worth to a prospective employer, age, family but perhaps the most important is adaptability to a different culture and how familiar you are with it. It'll be easier for the next year in EU countries after which, each will have it's own criteria. Oh you'll need fast internet and a good sports bar for your regular dose of hope and dismay.

No one will have me as I am now a liability. I should have gone to Australia or Canada years ago as many of my mates did but I didn't know then that a bunch of fascist bastards would ruin the the country.

Don't jump to conclusions before you know the criteria. From what I hear in the Netherlands Spain, Portugal, France and other countries will need you to show means of support financial, housing and healthcare such that you won't be a burden on the state. It's far from the freedom of movement currently enjoyed but there's hope.

I know if I went to Spain now, and took up residencia, I could continue living there under current rules, even after the transition period has ended.
Unfortunately uprooting my wife, with her health concerns, wouldn’t be fair on her, so that option is out.
I have a property there, so that isn’t a problem.
Financially, my state pension and a small Local Government Pension, would allow me to support myself to, most probably, a better standard there, than it will here, but I still have 16 months before I can claim my state pension, thanks to my retirement being pushed back a year by the Tories, so another door shuts.
Health cover would mean private insurance or potentially paying into the Spanish health system, to qualify for care equal to that of the indigenous people, but costs unknown at the moment, but possibly affordable.
It’s getting around the “you can only spend 6 months of the year in the country” bit which is the sticking point, as supporting two homes, one here and one there without working full time, isn’t feasible.
**** Cameron for causing this to happen, by caving in to the right of his party and putting the vote to the country.

How come these vile scum are never dragged screaming before the courts? Because it would damage the reputation and the wealth of the 'ruling elite'. **** the lot of them, and one of these days all this **** will come down on their heads and bury them.

I can not wait for the day that people have had enough of this corrupt system and we join with the poor, the marginalised and the abused and turn on these scumbags and throw every one of them in prison.

Feeling for you mate just hoping things work out. It is a real bollocks so many are thrust into difficult circumstances by this nonsense. Made worse by the attitude of what's meant to be a negotiating team it's almost as though they believe their own bullshit.

Well, I’m retired, so I could sell up here, buy a bolt hole somewhere to keep a foothold in this place, then put the rest into a property over there. As someone else said, it’s the health insurance and only being able to stay 6 months which is the big issue, plus the falling value of the pound meaning the pension gets smaller .....
I thought about moving about 3 years or so ago (I’ve spent my life moving around and living in different countries for work, so I’m pretty adaptable I reckon) and put it off. I’m kicking myself now ..... think I’ll seriously look at somewhere like Portugal or, even, one of the Nordic countries ......
Those utter ****es in government have totally ****ed us over all for a tax dodge ..... bastards

Portugal ahead of the Nordic countries, weather and cost of living being the prime mover. I think there's a tax break in the current Portuguese regs to. I don't know about the 6 months rule and so far as I know moving and registering before whatever disaster is being cooked up over the next year gives current rights continuation. Having done similar workwise over my career I've learnt to look at the country regs and apply them to my situation. All the best for all that find themselves considering a move given the crock of **** the current regime is creating.
