A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is politics?"
The dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the bread winner of the family, so let's call me capitalism. Your mother, she's the administrator of the money, so we'll call her the government. It's our job to take care of you, so we'll call you the people. The nanny, let's call her the working class. And your baby brother, we can call him the future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense."

The little boy replies, "Well, the government isn’t listening to the people, capitalism is screwing the working class, and the future is in deep ****."

Cabinet reshuffle underway!! I called it a day or two ago, I am predicting it now that Rees-Mogg will be a backbencher by close of play tonight. Is there a hope Patel will join him?
It would have helped, but it’s also somewhat historical revision.
I pointed out pretty early on that Corbyn was being extremely wish washy. To which the overwhelming response was that Corbyn would eventually go Remain if it came down to it, and had stated so, or at least was clearly better than Brexit, so what was I talking about?
I also said that it was not clear at all the Remain was the majority, but people were insistent that things had changed after the last Brexit vote and the youth would show up this time, etc. It wasn’t until very near the election when things were starting to go bad that everyone started blaming Corbyn.
Anyway, the point is not the accuracy of people’s predictions but the sentiment behind them. I feel like Labour actually won the areas and the voters that were strongly pro-remain. They felt strongly enough about the issue to vote Labour despite any reservations about Corbyn.
It wasn’t the press. It wasn’t Corbyn running a bad campaign or being weak in some way. Look at the embarrassment he lost to. Why did Corbyn have to pitch a perfect game and his opponent barely even have to show up?
Johnson won for the same reasons Trump won. What’s happening in both countries is eerily similar. And you can look at movements in other countries as well. It boils down to there’s a white racism.
This **** has nothing to do with the EU. No one was fooled by Johnson. They know he’s a dick, it’s why they vote for him. It’s all about keeping dark-skinned people out of the country. The Brexit election was really a poll on racism, pro-racism won.
Watch how fast Johnson kneels to Trump and Putin. He has no choice now, really. “British Identity” is really “White Identity.” That is what we are all up against. I think we need to face that reality instead of blaming the press or politicians or whoever. The people you think of as your countrymen and neighbors are hateful dickbags who don’t think the same of you.
Sadly, I agree with all of that. There is a deep underlying racism, a growing insecurity about who white people are, which permeates society now.
I have thought a lot about this issue...
White men have been told they have it all, but the truth is that by lumping poor white men in with rich white men society has weaponised race. Poor white men look at other groups in society who have more than them or have louder advocates for them and they get angry... because people keep telling them they have white privilege. They don't. They are being tarred with the brush of the rich man.
And who is worst for this viewpoint? The socialist left. The middle class socialist. The intellectuals who have never been poor but know white people have it better than black - except sometimes black and asian people have more and are born with more and will always have more...
This is a bit of a rambling post, but I am trying to say that it is our desperation to make the world equal so quickly which has missed the truth of inequality and isolated huge numbers of people. Those people want Farages and Borises and Trumps because they are the only people in politics saying "It is okay to be white".
I can’t “like” that but I do agree with practically every word. We’re ****ed.
I can’t help feeling Corbyn’s hands were tied a bit by bad planning. He did say he was neutral on Brexit. I have the feeling the Tories realised that would be an advantage to them. In a way they were correct. Sadly the people wanted it over and done with although I’m surprised Corbyn hadn’t cottoned on to this. I can’t think of any other reason for Labours poor performance.
Unfortunately the white racists, have their insecurities fed by equally racist media, that pours petrol on the flames of hatred, with their vile and usually inaccurate headlines.
I would love to know how many of those that are anti immigrant also read the right wing papers and their age groups, because I am hoping that our younger generations will be the polar opposite of this group and not form their political opinions etc based on one source of information (their paper) and will be more welcoming of other races.

Sad days to be English....not British?? Strangely I was speaking about the immigration thing to a couple from Pakistan people only yesterday in Costco (having a hot dog) The lady had been borne here before her parents moved back to Pakistan some 14 years ago. They were very open had two lovely children who immediately made friends with me (3 and 5) She moved back to the UK and Southampton in particular after being married in Pakistan. She came back because she loved it here. She has a lot of English friends. She says in all her time in the UK she has never had any real problems nor apparently her husband, although he has only been here just over 3 years. She says that her countrymen who live in this area have never complained or had a need to. Which perhaps is a good sign............Would you perhaps get that response in another part of the country? Im sure you would in some other parts as well wouldn't you?
I think she is the exception to the rule.

It may not be so obvious nowadays, but casual racism is rife. As are inbuilt beliefs of (mainly) the older generation. I have mentioned on here before that I have in the past applied for jobs with identical CVs, but only changing my surname. I got interviews for some on my anglicised name, but my Indian surname was ignored.
I think she is just lucky or a lot, lot more thick skinned than I am. Or just oblivious to it.
IMO, it is getting worse again and the current climate it is becoming acceptable again to have racist views.
I know each part of the country is different, but for me to notice it in sleepy Bournemouth, I think it must be widespread.
Yes English, because Scotland and N.Ireland voted Remain, which I take to mean that they are more tolerant of immigrants than the English, whose volume of numbers swung the vote to Leave.
I have read, in the past, how Americans abroad have often claimed to be Canadian, to avoid being caught up in political arguments based on their foreign policies etc.
Maybe I should be practising a Scottish accent ahead of my next trip abroad,
I think the difference is that you are well travelled and educated. I don't like to make sweeping statements, but maybe that is it?

What I will mention is also that some companies have to fill their 'disabled' quota. I am deaf in one ear and need a hearing aid, so I often put that on job applications as I can help fill that quota without being disabled if you get what I mean. So it isn't just race that can help/hinder you when you apply.
EDIT: Lol, just read it back and I suppose I am a politically correct job seekers dream. Ethnic and deaf.
