They're not mandatory but the company I work for install them on every house we build where feasible.
Its definitely what house builders should do.
It's a pity they've lowered/removed a lot of the financial incentives for installing them.

Yes, any future government has to reintroduce the feed-in tariff as well. If everyone was paid to generate renewable electricity at home, we wouldn’t need nuclear or fossil fuelled power stations at all, which would be a much cheaper option. The cost of building Hinckley Point C has now risen to £22.5 billion, and the end is nowhere near in sight. Just imagine if all that cash was invested in renewable energy technologies!
Just watching the Parliament channel, and the Commons are debating the Domestic Abuse Bill. This is one of many pieces of vital legislation which was saved by the Supreme Court nullifying prorogation last week. This bill has cross-party support, and it’s a pleasure to see MP’s on all sides debating, politely and courteously, something which countless women, and quite a few men, will benefit from in future years. So it turns out that a Parliament which the Attorney General last week described as “moribund” and “having no moral purpose” actually does have a very high moral purpose after all, which we all knew already.
Just one caveat: MP’s are desperately trying to pass this bill into law this week, as it seems the Prime Member will be on the prorogation trail again in order to present a completely pointless Queen’s Speech.
I’ll stop there, because Labour’s Rosie Duffield is making a speech about her personal experience of coercive control which has made me cry.

They are actively slowing the progress to rooftop home-electricity generation. Whether this is them protecting the fossil-fuel industry to some extent, I don't know. The National Grid actually wants people to take up solar panels. It's all clean electricity.
I am an old man and have never seen or heard anything like these Brexit events in my life. I nearly shed tears of absolute total despair watching the grubby little fascists giving that serial lying opportunist a standing ovation at the Tory CONference. He may yet save the Tories from UKIP and the Brexit party but will have destroyed the country in so doing.

Another sad part is imho the fact that there were so few of them in there to witness it in person .

Thanks, but it's the easiest thing in the world to get this out in the open, with a few clicks of the mouse. And it needs to be out there. It's getting people to view it, understand, empathise, and stand against it, which is difficult. Rosie Duffield is not being weak. Not being a sissy. She works in, possibly a pretty horrible environment at present, and at it upto 15 hours a day. Her saving grace is that she still loves her job. It's actually a relief for her. For many they don't get the outlet. But Rosie has been extremely brave here, because she has gambled on understanding and empathy at a bleak time. She gets my support 100%.
