We are subjected to continuous propaganda in the U.K. press, aimed specifically at discrediting Jeremy Corbyn, claiming Socislism crippled Venezuela - completely ignoring the fact that Hugo Chavez only got elected in the first place because free market capitalism had hardly served Venezuela well.
There are probably, very many people, of my generation, who are sitting very, very comfortably as a direct result of unions fighting for them to have received a decent wage, with decent benefits.
Even those that weren’t in a union will have benefited directly from the efforts made by the unions, as they would receive the same rate of pay as their colleagues who were union members.
Those working in other areas of the same industry also benefited from the unions as their company would often raise wages in line with their competitors, in order to retain staff.
Unions aren’t all bad.

How much begging and failed attempts to merely secure the same trade deals we had while in the EU will it take before people start to realise we are losing the power to do what we want by leaving the EU?

On the subject: for all the talk about our immigration policy as an ideal, Canada has a far greater percentage of immigrants. About 14% of people in the UK are foreign-born; we're at 21-22%. So if you were to immigrate here, you'd hardly be alone.
We are in Vancouver on the 3rd May for the second time in under a year ......do you think the wife is trying to suggest something?.
Heh, Vancouver's lovely...but it's also one of the most expensive cities on the planet. My mother's family lived in what is now effectively a bedroom community (and surrounded for a good 20kms by newer bedroom communities), and a few months ago they got me to look up her grandmother's house online to see if it was still there, or had been torn down to make way for newer developments.
Because it was on a postage stamp of land, the small house was still there, though very much overhauled on the inside...and had actually sold not long before. For the equivalent of about £800k.

It’s tempting. But I don’t want to move there just in time to see Doug Ford get elected Prime Minister.
So difficult to live plastic free. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Individuals, families and business's in particular bars, restaurants and hotels can make difference (ban the use of plastic straws, cutlery and cups NOW). But the UK is in Europe. Always has been, always will be. What the Battle of Brexit is, is a revised versión of the military battles that the UK has had in Europe over the centuries. If it lasts at long as the 100 Year War, well……?

Jab
The lack of education and knowledge on Plastic is awful. The media hype is so blinkered. There are some over uses, but the immediate call Is to ban plastic when better education is what is needed. Better control from governments. Better recycling (as Jab referred to). More pressure on countries who have no control at all (97% of Plastic in the ocean gets there from either Asia, India or Africa). More pressure on the big retailers who are presented with solutions but won’t consider anything if their is a higher cost.
Better education is needed on the environmental costs of the alternatives. People just aren’t aware that the alternatives to plastic (paper, metal, card) have a worse environmental effect; it’s just less visual.
What really needs to happen is humans stop being humans. Plastic doesn’t grow legs and walk into the ocean. It’s horrific what’s in there, but the right actions needed to be taken and the right information needs to be given to the public rather than the media drive to ban all plastics blindly and irrelevant of the alternative effects.
