The economy was in such a state in the early 70`s that an Aberdeen-Celtic cup tie had to be played on a Wednesday afternoon due to power cuts. Thanks Labour for a great reason for bunking off school !
Those power cuts were on Ted Heath’s watch

Was Chirac the socialist in France, or was Sarkozy?
Noticed a bit of a trend, where countries whose economies have done poorly automatically become "socialist", while gently eliding the bit where the countries in Europe who have generally elected actual socialists have done fairly well economically...the Social Democrats held power for an unbroken stretch of 12 years between 1994 - 2006, during which the country's debt-to-GDP dropped dramatically, and Sweden now has the healthiest balance sheet of any European country save Norway (which has the advantage of North Sea oil wealth).

Gone from the ridiculous to the sublim. Why is May being so stubborn?? Surely she has realised she is unlikely to be the person to get this Brexit deal passed. Another 6 months of distain?? Oh man I’ll think I’ll emigrate........
Edit ...but not to Europe......
On the subject: for all the talk about our immigration policy as an ideal, Canada has a far greater percentage of immigrants. About 14% of people in the UK are foreign-born; we're at 21-22%. So if you were to immigrate here, you'd hardly be alone.

At least the bananas will be naturally curved, unlike what the EU has forced on us...I was thinking of moving to some banana republic. At least you’re ready for what you might get .........

So difficult to live plastic free. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Individuals, families and business's in particular bars, restaurants and hotels can make difference (ban the use of plastic straws, cutlery and cups NOW). There is some hope, there are bans and charges in a number countries https://en.m.wikipedia.org/.../Phase-out_of_lightweight...
Edit, this affects places I dive, last year in the Blue Lagoon site I was immersed in a plastic soup, it left me in tears http://divemagazine.co.uk/eco/8394-bali-to-ban-plastic-bags It's only a start, Let's push for change however, wherever just 'king do it!
