Is it really a good idea to have people who don't agree with you deselected? Surely he should be trying to convince them his way of thinking is the right way. Remember some of these MP's have been voted in for their stance even if it does not agree with Corbyn's. The Labour party need to convince the rest of us not just the existing hard core Labour supporters. The further hard left they go the harder it is for them to convince the middle ground, which any party needs if they want to be in Government. The floating voters always hold the key not the hard Labour or Conservatives ones.

If he get's people deselected for not voting his way then he is a hypocrite as he has spent his whole political career doing just that.

when I was 18 I'd have had to write them a letter and would have had the time between writing it and buying a stamp to reconsider!

No backlash from me; I'm a Labour Party member who has accepted that Jeremy Corbyn is the democratically elected (twice) leader of the party. However, I am dead against deselection.

Due to our first-past-the-post election system, both Labour and the conservatives are effectively coalitions anyway; in Labour's case between socialists and social democrats/liberals, in the Tory's case between free market capitalists, and old school conservatives. There is no need for Corbyn to remake the party in his own image - every leader tries to, but it's seldom possible or desirable, as Tony Blair discovered.

For the record, I think Corbyn is far more of a democrat than Blair ever was.

I don't agree with it because it sounds too much like a dictatorship. You don't agree with me therefore I am going to get rid of you and replace you with a yes man/woman. Corbyn would have been kicked out years ago. <laugh>

Yes, he would.

A lot of the impetus for deselection is not coming from Corbyn though. It's coming from grass roots party members frustrated at the way some of their own MPs are deliberately trying to undermine the leadership.

In that case, as leader, it sounds like he needs to let them know it's not going to happen.

Corbyn seems to be like marmite you either think he's great or you don't. It will be interesting to see if he can change the minds of the people who don't, which would probably mean compromising some of what he believes. He may not be prepared to.

I think that the MPs not longer represent the "grass roots" values of the Labour Party. Whilst I agree that in a democracy MPs should ideally be representing their constituents the current situation with Labour appears to be that this is not the case. I would expect a significant proportion of current Labour MPs to be replaced prior to the next election as Labour Party members lose faith with those MPs who are supposed to represent them.

Interesting to see that you believe that the "centre" still holds sway within the voting public. My understanding is that this is no longer the case and that voters have moved towards the Right and Left. The old centralist ideals of Cameron and Blair are dead,

It will be a shame if that happens as there are some decent MPs who do some good work who may fall into this category.

As for the centre ground we will have to see, but for a few decades now it has been the party who has occupied the centre ground who has been elected and I haven't seen anything to suggest this has changed.
