No mate I'm not happy with how things are but know the tories are doing that which is accepted as a normal procedure in political terms. No different than a coalition......which all parties have done at diffent times.

You'll agree that favouring one side over the other in NI is very irresponsible and could threaten the fragile peace there though?

Exactly, the essence of the Good Friday Agreement was power sharing, along with an open border. Favouring the DUP was bound to get the Republican extremists like the Real IRA twitchy.

If we end up with a hard border after Brexit the gloves will be off.

I guess we didn't have a choice I can't see us favouring any of the others especially Sinn Fein..........As I have said on numerous occasions there is no need to have any border issues but it needs sorting and I can't see either of the new candidates sorting it out satisfactorily.

There is always a moral and correct choice and that wasn't one IMO Beddy....

It was a self interested cling on to power at any cost choice.

I'm not a politician but there were lots of other ways of sharing power with a different coalition.

I think they took their only choice. It still would have been a coalition though....just the same. Never have liked them but that’s how it is.

Edit .......Always thought of coalitions as the tail wagging the dog........

And giving a party favouring a Hard Brexit power, when the majority in NI voted Remain.

Making the best of a bad lot is what the ordinary people have done since they started doing things. It's supposed to be different these days. The first thing you don't do is hand all the power to those who have far too much in the first place.

If you were a remainer who just wants to 'get this thing over', then stop right there. Because this is the biggest political mistake this country will have made since it choped off Cromwell's head and restored the monarchy. And that eons ago. And there's no desire for leaving now anyway.

Don’t think Cromwell was executed? I agree the Monarchy should never have been restored though

Bloody heck Chilcs...........The tories didn't Favour a hard Brexit...........and still don't. You need to be reminded that neither main party were in favour of leaving the EU let alone a hard Brexit. You cannot isolate the N Irish no more than you can Scotland. They were part of a democratic vote. As far as I can see the party is pretty well unified as most want a negotiated settlement.........you've got a few odd balls including Boris that are prepared for a hard Brexit.

I meant the DUP Beddy. The majority in Northern Ireland voted Remain, and yet the party representing them in the government favours a Hard Brexit.

About that little trip into history with Oliver Cromwell... Well I have uploaded the documentary to the Archive now. Been meaning to do it for months, and talking about it was as good a reason as any for finally doing it. Look what I found while doing a little preparation wander through the Net. Rather appropriate, don't you think? It was either due to the smell of political corruption or protecting the Protector from the atmosphere of London:

So, yeah.

grab em by the puki
Are you happy that our current Government is being propped up by a bunch of people (bigots) that still support marches celebrating and rubbing in a victory over another set of citizens with a different religion and beliefs from over 300 years ago?

should bonfire night get scrapped then?

That's completely different and you know it, you don't march and parade through Catholic areas on Bonfire Night. Catholics on the mainland are not treated as second class citizens as they have been over the last century by the mainly Protestant authorities although that has changed in the last 20 years admittedly.
